Brett Wiesner Obituary

Wiesner, Brett Valenciano Passed to Our Father July 5, 2014, at the age of 31. Brett is survived by his mother, Linda, father, Francis, and his older sister, Rachel, his aunt Bonnie (Bob) Sheldon, uncles Mike, Tom, John, Joseph Wiesner and aunt Marianne (Ron) Wachowiak. Also remembered by many cousins, friends and teammates. Brett is preceded in death by his uncle Renard Valenciano. Brett excelled in soccer from an early age, being selected to the Olympic Development Program. He played in many countries at each level of the ODP ages U-13-U-20. In his senior year at Brookfield East High School he was selected Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year 2001, as well being selected a Parade All American player 2001. He received a full soccer scholarship to the University of Washington where he excelled in the Pac 10 conference. He signed on to the Seattle Sounders after graduation, and then was recruited to the Milwaukee Wave where he competed for a number of years. He played on the USA Futsol team in the 2008 World Cup of Futsol in Brazil under Coach Tozer. Following his active professional career in soccer he has coached at North Shore United and most recently at the Brookfield Soccer Association, where his soccer career got its start. Brett was passionate about soccer; coaching, interacting with soccer players of all levels, and helping develop the soccer potential in all the players he worked with. Brett was a loving, sensitive, son. His smile would light up a room. His many friends shared that he was just so competitive in everything he did. Brett helped those he could with support and kindness. Donated his long thick locks of hair numerous times to "Locks of Love" and did many appearances at the State Fair and at Children's Hospital as a professional player. Brett will be sorely missed. His wit, quick retorts on texts, and artistic postings on "Instagrams" were appreciated by many of his friends. His love of life, passion for competing, and sensitive kindness will be remembered forever. His love of his cousins and relatives was genuine and he so loved to play with the younger generations. Brett, we will miss you. You have left a hole in our lives and a hurt in our heart. Beyond your skills and awards, you were a truly beautiful person. We thank God for the years we had with you. May you rest in Peace. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, July 14, 2014 from 2 to 7 PM. Mass of Christian burial 11 AM, Saturday, July 19, and interment to follow at St. Bonifacius Church, St. Bonifacius, MN. Memorials appreciated. "He left it all on the field"

Dear Wiesner Family,

We are so deeply saddened by your loss. We had the pleasure of meeting Brett three years ago at a camp our two kids attended. He made a such a positive, enduring impression upon them and they remember that week as one of their favorite camps. He was a incredible coach, mentor and friend who will never be forgotten. Our thoughts are with you all.

In deepest sympathy,

Dear Wiesner Family,
I first met Brett when he bacame coach of my North Shore United club team in Cedarburg. Our team was going through a rough time on the field, but Brett came in and helped turned our team mentality and playing style around. I remember him saying "that's magic!" when he liked what he saw.
A favorite memory of Brett: North Shore United attended a Wave game, and Brett's players stood up behind the opposing goal. Brett smiled at us before the game, then scored early on. He pointed right to us, his boys, who went wild.
Bless you Brett; I miss you! All of your NSU guys are now off to college or the military. We will always remember you. Love, Billy

July 13, 2014

Dear Brett,

Last winter on one of our "off" weekends for ODP prior to competition, we showed up at the Barn. The weather was less than favorable; we'd been used to traveling in the winter and you were there. And, you worked with Big Al, or Shoeless Ally, as she is known to some that day and generously invited her to train with your team when it worked with her schedule. We had no idea you spent so much time in the ODP program at the time; and when we left and I reminded her of how fortunate she was to have such wonderful mentors and role models in her life.

Thank you for that day. She was scored against 3x yet put 3 in the net 2nd half. And I mention this not simply for the benefit of those who may be reading but I see your grin, your eyes light up, your smile in knowing this -- which everpresent regardless of whether your hair was long or short -- which, by the way always had me doing a double-take in recognizing you in passing -- and now we know the story of your hair! And how many lives you have touched in that way!

So, this weekend was Regionals. The week passed by, when to tell Big Al. I thought after would be best, yet, Thursday nite I prayed out loud just before announcing your accident that the timing was the right time.

So, this weekend, Big Al played for you. It was a bit more responsibility but she handled it well. We brought you along and I reminded her, like so many of those whose lives you have touched yet may still be young in understanding the cycle of life --

--that an ending isn't necessarily an end. And, your spirit, just as it did this weekend and with so many others in so many ways -- will continue to remain, to be -- a part of who we are.

Brett made such an impact on my son as his coach. Although, it was only for one season Brett exhibited a passion for the game that could only be described as contagious. His passion is what fueled my son's desire to continue to develop and compete in the sport he now calls his own. Thank you Brett for being such an inspiration and mentor to not only my son but to so many others. You will be missed. God Bless!

I was lucky enough to be Brett's fifth grade teacher at Hillside. Several years ago, my kids' school attended a Wave game and had a private autograph session after the game. I asked our representative if Brett would be part of the session. I told the rep to tell him his former teacher wanted to say hi. Not only did Brett sign autographs, but he gave me a big hug! Yes, he was an amazing man and I am glad I got to be a small part of his life. I can't imagine your sorrow, but take joy in what a positive, warm soul Brett shared with all who knew him.

After reading about this remarkable young man who did such wonderful work with young people to teach them the game that he loved; I like to think that God needed an excellent soccer coach for all of his little angels, that have gone before us. God chose Brett to be the coach in heaven. To Mr. and Mrs. Wiesner; you raised a fine young man, that was loved by many people. I truly appreciate his gift of working with a special young man that I love. I hope he will always remember Brett for his kindness and smiles and encouragement. God Bless your family, and hold you in his hands.

Fran & Linda, We remember Brett as a classmate of our daughter, Abbey, at Hillside and also many years of tennis lessons & drills at the Highlander where he excelled at tennis, as well. Brett was known for his leadership, friendships and great soccer ability. He was the "one" they all wanted to be with. He accomplished so much in his short life. From now on whenever we hear rumblings from above on a stormy night we will surmise that Brett has organized a soccer game or has hit a booming serve in heaven. We send you our deep sympathy.

I hadn't known Brett very long but he was by far one of my favorite people in Milwaukee. He's so funny and easy-going. We would sit and talk for hours and now I can barely remember what all our conversations were about because it just flowed so naturally. I think that's why he had So many friends.

For all of Brett's friends and family, my prayers are with you. I can't imagine your grief.

I once commented on Brett's perfectly clipped clean fingernails. He asked to see mine and scoffed a little :). After little inquiry, he proudly told me that his mom taught him to do his nails every Monday morning and he did. :) I started the tradition as well and I think that's when I'll think of him the most. Monday mornings, clipping my nails.

My sincerest condolences,

Brett was a gifted individual on and off of the field. We have been lucky enough to witness both. His kindness and compassion when dealing with my boys will never be forgotten. His ability to bond with kids was special. They were drawn to him by his smile, and his kindness. We were fans of his not because of what he did as a player, but what he did as a person. A great man, he will be missed. Rest in Peace.
