Charles Parthum Obituary

Parthum, Charles Frederick, Jr. Died September 2, 2008, in Milwaukee. He was born January 8, 1916, in Detroit, MI. One of six children of Charles Frederick Sr. and Irene (Mencke) Parthum of Grosse Pointe Park. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Irena, John (Jack), Helen, Robert and William. He was also preceded in death by his former spouse, Mary Louise, whom he wed in 1943. Charlie is survived by four children, Fr. Charles F. III, Dr. Peter John (Jane), Marylou, and Atty. Irene; grandchildren Elizabeth, Michelle, Kyle, Sarah, Kristina and Grace; sister-in-law Ann (Mrs. Robert) Parthum; cousins, nieces, nephews and friends near and far. During World War II, he was a commissioned officer in the Army (AUS) and in 1960, Parthum established his consulting firm, Charles Parthum & Associates. From 1976-1979 he took a leave of absence from his firm to serve as director for the six-county Southeastern Wisconsin Area Agency on Aging. Charlie was a member of Milwaukee Athletic Club, the 311 Club, and for many years, the Advertising Club, Press Club, American Management Assoc., Retired Officers Assoc., and Brookfield Rotary. He was also a proud member of the very exclusive "Red Devils" club. Singer with professional choirs throughout the nation, including the St. Thomas Episcopal on Fifth Avenue, New York; Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, and the Chicago Lyric Opera Chorus. In Milwaukee, he sang with the choir at St. Paul's on East Knapp and previously at Christ the King (Wauwatosa), St. Mary (Elm Grove), old St. Joseph (Milwaukee); the Felix Chorale, and for over two decades with the Bel Canto Choir until his 85th birthday. Charlie is no doubt singing at this moment. He was an athlete, and continued swimming laps three times each week until last year; an avid tennis and volleyball player, swimmer and golfer. He retired from ice-skating at age 60 after breaking his elbow… while skating backwards. The family wishes to thank the staff of Bradford Terrace, Stowell Associates, Vitas Hospice and "honorary" daughter, Cookie White. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday, September 7, from 4PM-7PM. Services Monday 10AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 914 E. Knapp St., Milwaukee, with the Very Rev. Charles F. Parthum III and Rev. Dr. C. Stephan Teague officiating. Committal services following at Wood National Cemetery, Milwaukee, WI. Mary Lou & Family,
I was so sorry to hear of your fathers' passing. I look forward to hearing him sing with the heavenly choir. May you find comfort in knowing he rests in the arms of his savior, Jesus Christ.
