Cynthia Hutchinson Obituary

Oliver Hutchinson, Cynthia "Cindy" Cynthia "Cindy" Robinson Oliver Hutchinson, 82, a longtime resident of Brookfield, WI, died on Friday, March 24, 2017, after a long illness. Born in Milwaukee, WI, on September 21, 1934, to Marion Reindl and Dr. Arthur Robinson, Cindy spent her early years in Jefferson, WI, and many happy summers at Warwick Woods Camp in Sayner, WI. She was graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1956 where she was a member of Delta Gamma. In July 1957, she married Stewart (Tom) Oliver in Jefferson, WI. After living in Jefferson, they moved to Seattle, WA, and Orinda, CA, before returning to Wisconsin in 1968. Cindy was active in all the communities in which she lived. While raising four children in Brookfield with Tom, Cindy served as an elected member of the Elmbrook School District Board of Education. She earned a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Marquette University and was a pioneer in selfdirected language classes at Drought Elementary School in the Burlington School District of Racine County. After retiring as a full-time teacher, Cindy taught part-time in the Elmbrook School District and volunteered as an adult literacy teacher. Cindy was a member of the 20th Century Topic Club in Elm Grove, WI, and served as its president. She and Tom were long-time members of the Westmoor Country Club, where Cindy was often seen by the pool enjoying sunny days and outdoor activities. Tom died in 1995. In the years following Tom's death, Cindy traveled to England, Ireland, Italy and Scotland with her beloved sister Mary, staying in historic castles and inns managed by the Landmark Trust. They spent many evenings preparing feasts and singing with friends who traveled with them. In their final trip together, Cindy and Mary ventured to China. In 2007, Cindy married Leeds Hutchinson who survives her. Cindy especially enjoyed the time they spent together in Fort Meyers Beach, FL, where she and Leeds played golf, hosted their families and made new friends. Cindy was devoted to her family and numerous friends and was happiest when surrounded by them. She was a gracious hostess and found kind words for everyone she met. She loved music, played the piano and ukulele by ear, and adored parties that included laughter and song. Her home often smelled of delicious breads, cakes and cookies, which she baked and gave liberally to family and friends. At the numerous athletic and school events she attended for her children and grandchildren, she could often be seen knitting sweaters, scarves and mittens. She was also a talented seamstress and dressmaker. Cindy was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Tom and her sister Mary. She is survived by three sons and a daughter and their spouses: Stewart Oliver III and his wife Mary Oliver of Elm Grove, WI, David Oliver and his wife Suzanne Oliver of New York, NY, Andrew Oliver and his wife Tammi Giesen of Whitefish Bay, WI, and Katherine Lee and her husband Michael Lee of Hinsdale, IL. Cindy lovingly passes on her legacy of generosity and kindness to her grandchildren: Emily, Megan and Elizabeth Oliver of Elm Grove, WI, Anne, Thomas and Theodore Oliver of New York, NY, and Julia, James and Abigail Lee of Hinsdale, IL. Mass will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on June 3, 2017, at 11 AM, with visitation from 9:30-10:45 AM and eulogies from 10:45-11 AM. Memorial gifts may be made to Misericordia Heart of Mercy, Attn: Sister Rosemary Connelly, 6300 North Ridge Avenue, Chicago, IL 60660.
