Knew Dane when i helped do the addition to his Colorado home in Florissant Co. He always treated me good,, and had me do other jobs around the place for months later, and check on the place from time to time. I really miss my old friend,

Dear Terry and Alyssa--
Your dad/grandfather was an amazing person who touched so very many lives. He will forever be known to numerous people as extraordinary in the various roles he played--from employer, to businessman, to confidant, to friend. He was loved by many, respected by everyone, and will be missed by all.
My love and prayers to you.

Dane, I remember when you came to Allis Chalmers from Purdue University with the deal involving Dr. Kirst's Betatron. I believe that it was in the early 1950's. I believe that DR. Kirst taught a class to A-C engineers as part of the deal. I don't know what happened to that arrangement, but in 1955 when McGuire transferred me from switchgear sales to Arch Sillers' switchgear engineering as general engineer, a title seldom used in Switchgear before, There was Dane Scag in the Transformer Section area on the 2nd floor of the Hawley Plant starting a design of a line of power factor correction capacitors, an idea of Gordon Clothier, who was the successor to Lee Hill of the very successful A-C transformer department.
Soon, in about 1955, Dane was transferred to Princeton University as A-C's contribution to Lyman Spitzer's thermonuclear Stellarator project. Ken Wakefield was GE's representive to that project and Westinghouse also had assigned an engineer whose name I do not recall. When Dr. Spitzer received authorization to spend some $40 million from the AEC to go to the design stage, a competiton was held by the 3 companies and A-C,(together with RCA, with their RF knowhow) won the contract.
A separate entity named C-Stellarator Associates was formed with A-C's Leonard Linde in charge and DANE SCAG was appointed technical director. Not many persons knew about this major national accomplishment by Dane Scag, long before he was credited with the design of a novel standing riding lawn mower.
Dane's fathers origin, family name Scagliano, was from a talented Waldenses(sp) family of northern Italy.
Dane was an extremely modest but talented person. In his later life he flew and repaired his own person airplane which he used in his businesses and for private use. Among other accomplishments Dane was a connessuer(SP) of classical music. I am proud to have known such an accomplished person. Dal

I worked for Dane Scag for many years and as all who knew him knows, he was a unique individual whom people never forgot. Dane was a genius, his talents and abilities were monumental. He taught me much and I find things I learned from him useful even today. He will be missed by all who benefitted from his contributions to this world.
