Survived by loving wife of 21 years, Kristin (nee Thomson) and his beautiful children, Amanda (18), Jessica (15), Sarah (12) and Luke (6). Son of David (Bonnie) Mattes and Bonnie Hillmer. Brother of Mark Krolikowski. Son-in-law of Joy Thomson. Brother-in-law of Greg (Marlo) and Jeff (Beth) Thomson. Uncle of Ben, Nate, Owen, Alex and Noah. Nephew of Barbara (Acie) Sanders. Dan will be remembered by other family and many friends. Visitation Thursday 4-8 PM at the Max A. Sass & Sons Mission Hills Chapel. Family and friends will meet Friday at 10 AM, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church (6060 W. Loomis Road, Greendale). Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Dan was graduate of Greendale High School who went on to earn his Accounting Degree from UW-Whitewater and his Masters from Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University. He was president of the Central Market for Wheaton-Franciscan Health Care and was named to the Business Journal's "Forty under 40". Dan demonstrated a rare combination of exceptional relationship management skills, strong analytical abilities and an unwavering commitment to the mission and ministry of Wheaton-Franciscan Healthcare. Dan loved life, whether it was time with family and friends, volunteering his time in the Greendale community or attending to his professional responsibilities. Dan was doing what he loved. As Dan will be missed by many people, we celebrate the fact that he is reunited with his grandparents, Richard and Doris Mattes and Walter and Shirley Hillmer. In lieu of flowers, the Dan Mattes Scholarship Fund has been established to annually benefit a graduate of Greendale High School.

Dear Kristin, my heart goes out to you and your entire family. It seemed like every time I was running, I saw Dan either driving or out in front of your house. He was always up for a fun 'hello.' I will miss that wave as I'm puttering along. I will keep you and your most beautiful children in my thoughts and in my prayers.

I only knew Dan in a formal way - as a leader for Wheaton and through my job at St. Francis Hospital. When he spoke at meetings, I was always impressed by his sincerity and goodwill. I often heard from others that he was a person to be trusted, and a good manager. I send my sympathies to his wife and children, and am so sorry Dan is gone from us. What a loss to his family, his community, and to Wheaton.

Dear Mattes Family,
I would like to express my sincere sympathy for the loss of Dan Mattes. I was very surprised and saddened to learn of his death. I had the privilege of meeting Dan when I applied for a job at Wheaton about 4 years ago. He was a wonderful leader in the health community and in the community as a whole. His passion for the care of others and his tireless efforts to improve the local health care system was an inspiration to all. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time.
