Eileen & Family,
I am so sorry to hear about Dave's death. I will remember him always as a wonderful compassionate doctor, a great boss, and a dear friend. I am left with many fond memories of our days at St. Vincents. Especially "dress up" parties, playing the lottery, and his twinkie wedding cake made by one of his patients (Wanda Domian) to celebrate your upcoming wedding. Dave was always such a pleasure to be around. He will be greatly missed.
May you all find peace and solace in your own memories.
Rest in peace DS.
Sincerely,
Cyndi Wondolowski

Dear Eileen: My first memory of Dave was when he came to interview at St. Vincent's, he sat out by the treatment unit studying our charts and eating all our candy.
In my 30 years of Rad. Onc. Dave is the most memorial and will always be my favorite Doc. Just saying his name brings a smile to my face.

Eileen- My sincerest sympathy to you and the "children" (I know they are now all adults). It seems very strange to think of Dave not being on this earth any longer. There seems to be an empty spot that belonged to him. I kept thinking that at some point in time I would see you and Dave somewhere. Knowing that is no longer possible is very sobering and unreal.Thinking of his smile, his "mischievous" personality, his intelligence that was tempered with kindness brings both a smile and a heavy feeling knowing that he has died. I can only imagine, Eileen, what this time must be for you as David is not only your spouse, but friend and soulmate for now so many years. I am grateful for the 9 or so years that we worked together at Rad Onc at St. V's. They were good years; we learned much from him and certainly laughed alot with him. He always used to say "He who dies with the most toys wins"- well David- I'm sure no lifeis perfect, but it seems that you and Eileen carved a little paradise in the maddening world. I am so very sorry that it ended all too soon. You have left a wonderful legacy. Eileen, thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope you can find some peace in what you and Dave shared as well as the ongoing life with the horses and your home. Take care.
(I would be happy to send pictures of Dave from some of the crazy patient parties we had at St.V's - where Dave's "special" hors d'oeuvre of Cheese Whiz on Ritz crackers were always featured.

Eileen and family, Our deepest sympathy. Even while we were in Arizona we were able to follow your ‘adventure.’ I have thought of you so often and marveled at the strength your entire family had shown over the years; strength that has served as an example to me and I am sure to many others. Our best at this time of sorrow, Chihaya and Paul Glunz

Eileen,

Words cannot express the sincere regret and sympathy we have for you and your family at this great loss. Dr. Sherman was an incredible doctor and a wonderful man. My mother, Beverly Rathmann, had the privilege of being treated by Dr. Sherman and then Dr. Anderson on two different occasions for lung cancer throughout the last 15 years. My mother passed away 3 years ago but we have kept your family in our prayers since learning about Dr. Sherman’s personal fight with cancer. My trips from Dallas to Milwaukee for those yearly check ups during my mother’s treatment and remission were a joy. We looked forward to her appointments for the constant words of encouragement that your husband provided. Each day was a blessing.

Your family has always been very special to us and it was a privilege to come to your home to meet you and the horses. (You may remember me – I use to ride with Marissa). Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers and we hope that you are able to find comfort during this very difficult time.

With sympathy,

Dr. Sherman was my doctor. He was the one who gave me the wonderful news that I was cancer free after
surgery of the esophgus. He was so wonderful to me - I will always be thankful for him being one of my doctors. He truly was a wonderful person. May he rest in peace.

Like many people, I followed Dr. Sherman's fight with cancer through the Journal Sentinel and always hoped and prayed that he would win.

My father William Jautz was a patient of Dr. Sherman's in 1992-1993. We will always be grateful to Dr. Sherman for the wonderful care, dignity and respect he gave our father.

My very deepest heartfelt sympathy to the family.

I will always remember Dave's care and compassion for his patients in Rad Onc at St. V's. Of course we needed to first get him off the telephone. The department was never the same once he left. Wisconsin's gain was our loss. He will be missed.

“DAVID, Your Ever Presence”
You left the world incomplete & your love ones still wanting to sit at your feet.
Worn, torn and grieving with memories of the many joys untold
Of a greater love we behold.

The freshness of our loss appear unending in the days clensed by tears into nights,
Comfort only by the realization that now you are at last whole

We shall forever cherish you as a gift from God
A gift could never grow old
Of stories about you that will forever be told,
We shall accept the ever presence of your warmth & strength
Continually reinforces to your love ones that your protection will only be measured in eternal lengths
David, Your presence will never be bent.

What an amazing, inspirational individual! I never knew him, but had followed all of Dr. Sherman's stories in the Journal Sentinel all these years as cancer has touched my family too many times. Your family and all that knew and loved him are in our prayers. Find comfort in the great gift that he left so many people--and continues to.
