Dear Kay,
Rita and I were very sad to learn of Don's passing, and want you to know we are thinking about and praying for you and your entire family. Don was such a big part of my college years and beyond. The Theta Delt experience and all the W Club gatherings were great. He was such a wonderful leader, and we so enjoyed seeing the two of you here in Madison. His passing is a loss for all of us.
Love,
Leanne Heggen Eckstein

I was 2 years older than Don when we played football together at Washington High but it was obvious that he had great talent and was a very spirited personality. Later @ UW I enjoyed watching him play. I believe that he made Grantland Rice's All-American team as a freshman which was a fantastic accomplishment.

Kay,
Glenn and I want to express our sympathy to you and your family. Joanne D. occasionally shared updates on Don’s health so I know the struggles you and he have endured.
I enjoyed reading the sports article about Don’s athletic accomplishments. It reminded me of how excited my dad, a long time Badger fan, was the first time he recognized and met Don at Our Shepherd.
We also recall the fun we had on the French Open tour you two led for The Grand Racquet Club – the tennis of course, but also the camaraderie and searching for the Moulin Rouge! That got us started on tennis tours to Australia/New Zealand, US Open, two year end championships in Houston and numerous Davis Cup ties including when they won it all in Portland, OR, so you’ve had a greater positive impact on our lives than you probably realize.
We pray you will experience the peace of the Lord in the days ahead.
Rejoice in the resurrection!

I met Don when I worked in the office, at Erie Mfg. Co., during the summer months of 1960 and 1961. He was so polite and professional. I am sorry for your loss.

Simply put, Don was an amazing guy. He always had a smile on his face, was easy to talk to, was amazing at everything he did, and was quite the family man. He was someone to look up to, and I certainly did. I know this isn't "goodbye"; it's just "see you later Don". We'll miss you.
God bless Don's immediate & extended family & friends; you're in my prayers during this difficult time.
