Donna Straub, then known as "Sister Donna," was my neighbor in Milwaukee in 1982, when she was in her 40s. She had just quit being a nun, gotten an apartment, and was excited to have, for the first time, a stereo, a TV, and a car! She was adapting to dressing in regular clothes, and learning to bake bread. Where she had lived in Alaska, they swept the floor with a feather because they did not have a vacuum cleaner!
Donna had been the homecoming queen in her small town in central Wisconsin, so maybe she wasn't really cut out to be a nun. She hoped that a certain priest she liked would exit the priesthood so they could get together, but last I heard, it wasn't happening. I lost touch with her about 1984, but heard from a third party that she married in the 1990s; a few years ago, she divorced. When I knew her, Donna worked as a Catholic school curriculum planner and taught the teachers. She was an outgoing, dynamic, brilliant person always ready to help others. And she was too pretty to be a nun!
