Years after my grandmothers death I am reminded of her in everthing that I do. Even though I do not carry the beliefs that she had in life I live everyday doing the very best I can knowing that she would be proud of how far we have come with her love and teachings. She touched the hearts of many and I will never forget her wisdom, her love, or what she taught me.
I love you.
5 years later from your first Grand.

I am sorry for your loss. She was a bright light in Milwaukee, especially to those that interacted with her in the musical arena.

Two weeks ago, I thought about her. Two nights ago, my mother informed me that she had passed away. I'm reading these wonderful sentiments (and every last one of them is true to the last letter), and I know she and Glenn Burleigh are collaborating on a score that will find its way from the heavens...into the mind, hands and heart of ready and able musical artist.

Ella was not just my friend...she was my sister - by faith, by love, & most importantly, by choice. Our children's marriage only strenghtened our kinship.

Mrs. Washington was my first music supervisor in MPS. I've always remembered her velvety voice, both speaking and singing. She was a perfect mentor for a new music teacher and became a supportive friend. I'm a better person for knowing Ella. RIP

I never met Ms. Washington, but I knew a member of her chorale. This story is ian indication of her commitment to musical excellence, and was told to me by that chorale member.
When the Florentine Opera did "Porgy and Bess", the Gershwin estate had to approve all the soloists, performers, and conductor of the opera. Ms. Washington rehearsed and prepared the chorale as the residents of Catfish Row.
Some of the choral parts in "Porgy" are very difficult, and the estate usually allowed cuts in the score, which they were planning to do in Milwaukee.
When their conductor started working with the Heritage Chorale, he was so impressed with their excellence that he started restoring the cuts, commenting that had he known in advance they were so good that he wouldn't have authorized the cuts in the first place.
Ms. Washington and her chorale helped make us all proud to be Milwaukeeans.

What a wonderful, talented woman with a warm, huge smile...this is how I remember her. Mrs. Washington was a great friend to my grandmother, Mrs. Oliver. My dad, Randy Harris, sang in several of her choirs over the years. She leaves a great legacy of music and friendship. Judy Harris Middleton
