Enid Fowler Obituary

Fowler, Enid M. June 3, 2012, age 94 years. Residence Bayside. Beloved wife of the late William Dillon Fowler. Loving mother of Deidre (Albert Heck) Fowler. Proud grandmother of Megan (Paul) Danielson and Andrew Heck. Great-grandmother of Dillon and Gavin Danielson. Further survived by other relatives and friends. Enid (Thomas) Fowler was born in Tenby, Wales, in the UK. She graduated from Oxford University in 1939 with a "first" degree in English. Shortly after, she was recruited by British Intelligence to work at Bletchley, where she used the captured German Enigma machine to help break the German codes in WWII. She also worked in the mine-sweeping section of the British Admiralty, where she was involved in the planning of D-Day. She met and married her husband, William Fowler, in London, where he was an officer in the US Fifth Army. After the war, they moved to the Chicago area and then moved to Bogota, Colombia, where Enid taught and directed plays at Colegio Nueva Granada. They also lived in Spain and then retired to San Miguel De Allende, Mexico. After her husband died in 1994, Enid moved to the Milwaukee area to be with her family. Enid's wishes were to be cremated and to have her ashes scattered at sea. There will be a private memorial for family and friends.

Dear Deidre and Family;

My sincere condolences to you on the death of your beloved mother. We have not seen each other for quite a long time but our shared days at the SSHC are fond memories. I wanted to extend my condolences as one who also lost a beloved mother. May your memories sustain you and your family.
Sincerely,
