Esther Elbaum Obituary

Elbaum, Esther Passed away in Miami, FL, Saturday, September 19, 2009, at the age of 92. Beloved wife of 62 years of the late Louis Elbaum. Cherished mother of Max (Ellen Kaiser), Batya (Daniel Messinger) and Leonard (Jacalyn Popuch) Elbaum. Cherished grandmother of James Cogley, Giuliana (Gus Mitchener) Gaia, Francesca Sternfeld, Chana Elbaum Messinger, Daniel Popuch Elbaum, Lauren Popuch Elbaum and Sara Popuch Elbaum. Great-grandmother of Maiu Rasa Gaia and West Lunasa Mitchener. Dear sister of Mildred E. (Arnold) Galef. Preceded in death by her sister, Batya (Brandon) de Pierre. Esther Elbaum, daughter of Frieda and Oscar Hianny, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on April 12, 1917, and attended the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She received her Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1944. She married Louis Elbaum in 1945; they lived in Brooklyn for three years before moving back to Milwaukee in 1948. Esther was very active in the Milwaukee Jewish community, in Hadassah, Na'amat, the Wisconsin Society for Jewish Learning and Temple Beth El Ner Tamid. For many years, she worked as a librarian at Marquette University. She and Louis moved to Miami in 1997 and enjoyed an old age filled with the love of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 23, at 11:00 AM, at Second Home Cemetery, 3705 S. 43 St., Milwaukee. Memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah, Na'amat, the Wisconsin Society for Jewish Learning or the charity of your choice. Jewish Community Funeral Home 5820 W.
