Frank Cummins Obituary

Cummins, Dr. Frank E. Passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18th, 2017 in the presence of his loving wife, Marilyn, and family. He was born on Aug. 7th, 1943 in Elkhart, Indiana to Frank Daniel and Ellen (Erickson) Cummins. He will be forever remembered by his four children: Megan, Jon (Caroline) Cummins, Katy Cummins (Brett) Bakko, Frank Daniel (Sarah) Cummins II, and seven grandchildren. After graduating from Hanover College and the Indiana University School of Medicine, he completed his internship, residency, and cardiology fellowship in Milwaukee in conjunction with the Medical College of Wisconsin. From 1974-76, he served in the U.S. Air Force as director of the cardiac catheterization lab at Andrew's Air Force Base. He practiced interventional cardiology for many years and served as director of the St. Luke's Medical Center Coronary Care Unit and director of the Circulatory Dynamics Lab. He was also founder and medical director of the Cardiovascular Research Group. As an active investigator in the development of cardiovascular devices, his work received both local and national attention, and he co-authored many publications; he sought to share his knowledge and expertise with everyone. "Dr. Frank" loved his work; his patients were his "partners." On the golf course, he was a generous giver and taker of mulligans. He loved golfing, bicycling, cross country skiing, watching the Packers, and making happy memories with wonderful friends. The family wishes to thank all of his caregivers and visitors along his journey: especially, Dr. Laura McGartland, Dr. Gerald Auger, and Rev. Laura McLeod for his medical and spiritual care. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 4th, 2018, from 4-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Brookfield Congregational Church, 16350 Gebhardt Rd., Brookfield, on Friday, January 5th, 2018, 11 AM - with a visitation from 10 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Karen Yontz Cardiac Awareness Center, Zilber Family Hospice, or the BCC Church Organ Fund would be greatly appreciated.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Dr Cummins. I have such fond memories on the 1990's of him and the patients we cared for. He made me a better nurse, trusted me with his friends who were patients and improved the quality of life for so many. What a pioneer for Interventional care! Thoughts of Marilyn and family during this difficult time. RIP my friend!

I, like many others, had the fortune of working with Dr. Cummins in the trenches. A true pioneer who was always on the cutting edge. An edge that he used for the betterment of the people he cared for and not for his personal or professional accolades. He truly cared. Dr. Cummins always pushed and challenged us to be better or to be as good as we could be. He made me a better man and a better professional. I thank him for that.
I also had the fortune of knowing him as a friend. We shared life stories and personal sorrows that I won't easily forget. A great doctor and a good man....Peace to his family.

So Long Dr. Cummins You will be Sincerely Missed!

A great Man has passed on. Dr. Frank Cummins has touched so many lives over the years. He was a GREAT Teacher and an AWESOME Physician. One who has inspired others to excel and I was one of those who was blessed to have been inspired by him. Working with him at St. Luke's has been life changing because of his teachings. Marilyn, and family thank you for sharing Dr. Cummins with me and many others. May the Peace of God be with you always, take care.

I am so sorry to hear of Dr Cummins death. He talked to me about his family and he was very proud and loved you all very much. He and I grew up as pups over the years as he treated me for my heart issues. The last time I saw him I know he was in great pain with his back. I gave him a hug and told him he saved my life. We started out knowing each other when my wife saw on TV new techniques for treating blockages. I was 42 and he was 39 .
He was truly a pioneer in his field. I love you Frank and will always hold you in my heart, Rest in peace, your friend and Patient, Willard 'Bill" Steinmeyer

Dr. Frank was our cardiology specialist since 1981, having performed stents that saved my life. I used to tell him to take care of those "miraculous hands". He was a loving caring person and a great heart specialist. We will miss him so much. My condolences to his family.

I am truly grieving at the loss of Dr. Cummins. He was a brilliant man and an innovator when it came to helping his patients. He took care of both my husband and I and we completely trusted his judgement to make the right decisions for us. We followed him from St. Lukes to St. Josephs & finally the last clinic he was at. He retired while we were still snow birds so I was shocked to find out he had retired & wondered who we could possibly find to follow in his footsteps. Our condolences to his family. I am sorry he did not have more time to enjoy retirement & will always be indebted to him for the decisions he made concerning each of our care. We would come to the visitation but I have just come down with an illness that is contagious. I will be thinking of him & praying for his family to be at peace.
