Fred Emil Jelich

Jelich, Fred Emil Passed away peacefully on August 10, 2008, at the age of 85. He was born on January 26, 1923, in Mellen, Wisconsin, to Emil and Mary Jelich. He was married to Phyllis (Bartosic) Jelich. Loving father of Mary Margaret (Thomas) Czisny, Michael (Debra) Jelich, Rebecca (Richard) Strauss, and Lucia Fischer. He proudly fought for his country as a Marine in World War II in Saipan, Tinian, Maug, and Occupied Japan from 1941 to 1946. Fred was a proud member of the Mellen, Wisconsin VFW post for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Emil, mother, Mary and brothers, Peter, Nicholas, and Anthony. Loving grandfather of Margaret and Charles Strauss, Lindsay Kathleen Czisny, Alex and Nicholas Jelich and Sarah and Christine Fischer. Fred was an ardent sportsman enjoying golfing, hunting and fishing in his beloved Wisconsin. All who knew him enjoyed his many kindnesses and his sense of humor. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 16, 2008, at SACRED HEART CROATIAN CHURCH, 917 North 49th St., Milwaukee, WI. A Mass of Celebration will be held directly after the visitation. There will be a military memorial service in Mellen, WI at a later date.
