George Scheffler Obituary

Scheffler, George Lee "Papa George" Of Waukesha, age 65. Lived life to the fullest and cashed in his chips earlier than expected in an ATV accident on April 30, 2010. Beloved son of Vivian and the late Russell Scheffler. Loving brother of Tom (Debbie) Scheffler and Donna (Grant) Knaebe. Best friend and loving companion of Jeannine Hoffman. Cherished father of Robin (Joe) McGrath, Russ (Michel) Scheffler and Rick (Heather) Scheffler, and step-daughter Kim (Chris) Hoffman. Proud grandpa of Mitch (Paige) McGrath, Stephanie Scheffler, Shannon McGrath and Taylor Scheffler. Loving great-grandpa of Tucker McGrath. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. George had many passions but most important to him were family, friends and racing. George founded Suburban Drywall in 1978 and, after passing the torch to his sons, was able to retire early and become fully devoted to enjoying his retirement of snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, fishing and racing. He had a long and illustrious racing career on the many dirt short tracks in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana. George was so proud when racing became a family affair and his sons, son-in-law, nephew and grandson followed in his footsteps. When George wasn't racing he was either thinking about it or helping out someone else who was racing. George loved snowmobiling and competed numerous times in the famed Three Lakes Cross Country Race. George lived every minute of his life to the fullest with his mottos: Hammer Down and Never Weaken. George will be greatly missed by his family and many close friends. His family will be hosting a celebration of Georges life with date and location details to be posted shortly on Wilds website. www.WildIncorporated.com

Dear Russ, Michel and family ...

Jeff and I were never lucky enough to meet your Dad. Your family reached out to my sons, Mark and Joe Ristow, when they had no one. No one. Mark and Joe talk of the entire family fondly to this day, but when they talk about George, their voices and faces still light up. Both boys are grown men now, and started working with George and Russ when they were pre-teens. These are easily the MOST memorable times of their lives. Thank you for allowing such a wonderful free spirit and true human being to share in the lives of my sons. Your Father and your family has had a HUGE impact on my sons lives.

We are so so sorry for this unexpected loss and will keep all George's family in our loving prayers.

Hello Robin,
Clyde and I would like to send you and your family our deepest sympathy on the sudden loss of your Father. One thing to remember he passed doing something he enjoyed doing which is a blessing in my mind. My Dad passed dancing at a wedding reception and it helped me to know he passed doing something he enjoyed. Hopefully it will help you deal with his loss.
Love and prayers Rose and Clyde Leibundgut

I don't know what we'll miss more. George telling stories or hearing stories about George. I know that all of us have lost a RACERs MAN that supported motorsports to his fullest.

He was an OLD SCHOOL RACER and I'll remember his many contributions to build and support Wisconsin auto racing.

His legacy will be that he always did more than necessary to "RUN THE SHOW" and make Wisconsin auto racing / racers BETTER.

George will be missed by his numerous friends, those that raced with George or watched him race. Many will remember his stories or heard racer tales about George. The rest knew of him only by reading race results & point standings.

I was fortunate to have had more than a chat or two with George and will always remember his HUGE smile.

Sorry for your loss.

always / Boring Bob
