Geraldine Lipscomb Obituary

Lipscomb, Geraldine God answered your prayer and has taken you "home". (Nee Pierson) formerly of Wauwatosa, WI, died on October 20, 2012, in Washington, DC, at the age of 88. Geraldine's husband of 56 years, Thomas, died in June of 2004. Geraldine joyfully anticipated the day they would be together again in the presence of the God they both loved so deeply. Geraldine and Thomas are survived by five children: daughter Joan (John) Mueller, La Crosse WI; daughter Anne Lipscomb (Mark) Kissel, Chevy Chase, MD; daughter Jane Lipscomb (William) Borwegen, Silver Spring, MD; son Thomas (Cathy) Lipscomb, San Jose, CA; daughter Lois (Bob) Leah, Palatine, IL. Geraldine spent her youth and her entire married life in Wisconsin. Born to Edward and Mary Pierson on July 12, 1924, in Spirit, WI, Geraldine moved to Milwaukee after graduating from high school. She completed the nursing program at County Hospital where she served as a head nurse. There she met Dr. Thomas Charles Lipscomb. They were married on August 7, 1948. On her 80th birthday, Geraldine left Wisconsin and moved to Chicago to be closer to her daughter Lois and her 7 Leah grandsons. In 2009, she left the Midwest and moved to Washington, DC, where her daughters Anne and Jane cared for her. In addition to her children, Geraldine is survived by her sister Lois and 16 grandchildren: Megan (Paul) Bagniefski , Elizabeth (Joe) Kretschmer, Joan Mueller Parke (George), John (Anne) Mueller, Sarah Kissel, Luke Borwegen, Will Borwegen, Anna Lipscomb, Pearse Lipscomb, Rob Leah, Joseph Leah, Tom Leah, Michael Leah, Kevin Leah, Peter Leah and Patrick Leah. Geraldine also lived to meet the first wave of her great - grandchildren: Elizabeth Bagniefski, Thomas Bagniefski, Emily Bagniefski, Julia Kretschmer and Madeline Parke. Though extremely frail and greatly incapacitated at the end of her earthly life, Geraldine became an increasingly strong and powerful teacher to her children, her grandchildren and her caregivers. Her faith was unshakeable. Her favorite and most frequently asked question - "What would we do without our faith? - was immediately answered with "Aren't we blessed." We celebrate your life and your joyful homecoming. May the powerful lessons you taught us about faith, gratitude, optimism, compassion, concern for others and dignity fill the emptiness we now feel at the loss of your physical presence. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012, at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 734 Glenview, Wauwatosa, from 9:30AM until the 10:30AM Mass of Christian Burial. Followed by graveside services at St. Mary Cemetery, Elm Grove. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Opus Dei, St. Jude Parish in Wauwatosa or masses for the living and deceased members of the Lipscomb family.

Just a wonderful, sweet, and gentle woman who was married to an equally sweet man. As we've raised our own children we appreciate even more how the previous generation mentored all of us growing up in the St Jude area. May God bless the whole Lipscomb family.
