Gregory Eckert Obituary

Eckert, Gregory James Gregory "Greg" James Eckert, 69, passed away Sunday July 30, 2017. Greg was born to Loren and Eleanor (Lorbetske) Eckert on June 20, 1948 who both preceded him in death. He Is survived by his wife Jean Fleischer, daughter Jessica (Patrick) Pitre, grandchildren Natalie, Isabella, Elaina and Aiden Pitre, brother Mark Eckert, sisters Becky (Mat) Catarozzoli, Debra Eckert, beloved aunt Evelyn Wendorf and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. Greg was an avid historian, in particular loved researching his family's history and sharing it with everyone. Teaching others was something that came naturally and something he also dedicated his career to as a Milwaukee Public School teacher, most of which was spent at Vincent High School. There was not a public place In the Milwaukee area where you would not hear from off in the distance "Hey Eckert..." from a current or former student wanting to catch his attention to say a quick hello or catch him up on where their life was now. He made an impact no matter where he went, even it if it was just through his unique sense of humor. Those who didn't know him well were never quite sure if he was joking or not. Rest assured, most reading this at one time or another have been asked what is the Capital of Mongolia, most were not really sure if he really was wanting an answer or not. So the question is, have you googled it yet? When Greg wasn't schooling us all in something, he was rooting on his beloved Nebraska Huskers football or women's volleyball teams. He also was very passionate and involved with Old English Sheepdogs, Additionally Greg loved traveling the US with Jean and the dogs living the RV life, in particular he loved the Texas Hill country and spending time In Luckenbach, Texas as that truly was his happy place. Greg's wishes are such that a public memorial will not be held, instead the family asks that you keep his legacy alive by talking to each other and sharing your family's history with one another, In addition if you are so inclined you can honor his life by sending memorials in his name the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the Old English Sheepdog Club of America and earmark it for Rescue.
