The memory of this shining light is still warm and challenging. May his testimony continue to be used of the Lord to lead others to follow in his train, living for and honoring our Lord Jesus. May Jesus Christ be praised and glorified!

Prof. Ahmed Haile was a mentor to me; he was a friend and a brother. Ahmed still remains the most high-profile Somali believer in the Protestant tradition of the Church. He was Christ-like, humble, and generous. The Somali Church misses him.

His life and example was a blessing and challenge to many. While his book will continue longer, his life and living testimony will continue to challenge many of us who knew him.

I have warm memories of "Haile" from back in the days of the revolution in Somalia. As a young man his talent for leadership was discovered by leaders in the revolutionary regime. He and a friend regularly attended a Bible study I led in the early seventies. They were keen to follow the Lord and were aware that they were walking a tight-rope. They had sought prayer that they would be faithful to the Lord.
Word came that Haile's friend was on his way to East Germany for further idealogical training. Haile asked us to pray for him as he knew things could move quickly.
Then we didn't see him around at all. It was only later that we learned that he had fled the country, turning his back on the excitement of international travel and the opportunity to climb the ladder with the blessing of the government of the time.
Finally, when we passed through Nairobi in 1972 we met him. He expressed his desire to minister to his own people and was in the process of seeking further training overseas. It was heartening to see where his desire was.
Subsequent history shows how he was faithful to this vision.
Praise God for sustaining him in the faith and enabling him to be such a blessing to His people.

I knew Ahmed from our time in Nairobi and appreciated him as a man of peace that loved his fellow Somalis so much. Although very learned he took time to discuss and share Christ with any Somali, discipling many into the kingdom. He is a great testimony as a follower of Christ.

Although I only knew Ahmed for a short time near the end of his life, his testimony and life calling has left a significant impression on my life~ motivating me to pursue Jesus more and share the gospel with many. My prayers are with the Haile family.
