Harriet Glasspiegel Obituary

Glasspiegel, Gerald Joseph "Jerry" Glasspiegel, Harriet Dorothy (Nee Hanover) Former long-time residents of Milwaukee, Harriet Glasspiegel died at age 93, on October 13, 2011, following the death of her beloved husband of 64 years, Jerry Glasspiegel, at age 92, on May 12, 2011, after 30 joyous years of retirement in Longboat Key, Florida. Both lived fortunate, healthy and happy lives. Loving parents of John, Harry (Nina) and Bob (Susan) Glasspiegel. Dear Granny and Poppy of Wills, Margot, Ryan, Claire and Dale Glasspiegel. Beloved Aunt and Uncle to 24 devoted nephews and nieces, and their families. Jerry and Harriet's fathers, John Glasspiegel and Harry Hanover, were childhood friends who delivered papers together in Milwaukee as boys in the 1890's. Harry moved to Birmingham, Alabama and married Harriet's mother, Fannie Brodnax Hanover. Harriet's sisters were Flossie (Ira) Bayer and Gladys (David) Feldman. Jerry was brother to Marvin (Bobbie) Glasspiegel and Gloria (Herbert) Glazer, and worked hand-in-hand with Marvin running the John Glasspiegel Company in Milwaukee for some 40 years. Harriet attended Goucher and Birmingham - Southern Colleges. Jerry attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison prior to serving as an army finance officer for 4 years during WWII, including in Tinian and Saipan (Northern Marina Islands), where he achieved the rank of Major. Jerry and Harriet traveled and enjoyed friends and family throughout their lives. In their Florida retirement, Harriet's activities included tennis, painting and volunteer work. Jerry became an accomplished sculptor whose works adorn the homes of grateful family and friends.
