James Moroney Obituary

James B. Moroney

James B. Moroney, "Jim", passed peacefully on April 5, 2021 with family at his side. He is survived by his daughter Laura Krenke, sister Barbara (Mark) Unrath, niece Kelly (Jon) Maass, nephew Brian (Samantha) Unrath, grandsons Cameron, Jacob, and Noah (Krenke), grandnieces and grandnephew Charlotte, Sylvie, and Reed (Unrath) in addition to numerous caring cousins and friends. Jim was welcomed to eternal life by his parents, James and Gladys (Messal) Moroney, along with other dear family and friends.

Jim spent his childhood in St. Francis until his family moved to South Milwaukee in 1969. Jim graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1974. The largest slice of his professional life involved his skills as a technical writer and accomplished photographer. He participated in a wide variety of professional and social groups and had numerous interests and hobbies. He made friends throughout his entire life. Jim's family would tease him for spending a good part of an hour attempting to capture the perfect family holiday or birthday photo but now those pictures are reminders of treasured moments, and the outtakes bring smiles. In addition to gatherings with family and friends, Jim greatly looked forward to annual summer family vacations in northern WI where time fishing, swimming, go karting, horseback riding and deer shining with Laura and her cousins Kelly and Brian were a given. Jim enjoyed traveling, bicycling, model rocketry, car shows and races, and festivals, especially Irish Fest, where he celebrated his Celtic roots and volunteered to serve beverages the past 20 years. Not known for extraordinary cooking skills, Jim did bake delicious beef roasts, grilled Italian sausages to perfection, and always knew where to find great pizza. (De Marini's was a favorite.) If family or friends planned a visit or needed help, Jim cleared his calendar and made time with them a priority. His strong faith, sense of humor, and welcoming smile will never be forgotten.

Jim's family would like to thank M. Seraphima and Holy Nativity Convent of Brookline, MA, and Fr. Jason Lavonn of St. Lukes Episcopal Church, Milwaukee, for support and prayers and the Froedtert NICU doctors and nurses for the kind care they provided to Jim and family. A private mass and Celebration of Life took place in June.

Jim a chara, Go dtuga Dia greim ort ina phailme go dtí go mbuailfimid arís.

To the Moroney family - I have just learned recently of the loss of Jim and I am so sorry for your loss. I went to Saint Francis High School with Barb - both started in fall of '67 and I didn't get to know Jim because I think he did all of high school at South Milwaukee. Barb - my condolences to you and your family - I know it is tough to lose a brother. It was nice when I knew you through half of high school and saw you as a very kind person. I wish you and your family well. Ed

Jim was a genuinely interesting man who was genuinely interested in people. It was always a pleasure to talk to him. I haven't seen him in a decade but I know we'd be able to pick up a photography conversation where we left off!
