This site will be going off line soon, but Jim will not be going of line as far as I'm concerned!

My sympathy to the family. Jim was my fathers' cousin (Leroy Tschantz). Every year my family would visit Jim and Grace at Christmas time at their home on Washington Blvd and I have wonderful memories of those visits. I always looked forward to his Christmas card and letter, when none arrived last year I thought something was wrong. Jim was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed.

Professor Schaefer was a wonderful professor with a great sense of humour, who managed to make Statistics both understandable and (almost!)fun. I extend my sympathy to the Schaefer family.

My sympathies to the Schaefer family. I have been a member of the UWM faculty for 28 years now, however I remember Professor Schaefer because I was his student back when I was earning my bachelors degree. I must say he was a memorable teacher and one of the best teachers I have ever had.

When Jim would walk into our barber shop I would always feel better as I knew the conversation would be delightful. In particular I enjoyed hearing about his latest trip to visit his seemingly endless number of what he called "an old girlfriend". There seemed to be a lot of them! Because he taught statistics I would try to argue with him about just how much gas milage he got on his trip by tossing variables into his statistics, always tring to throw him off. He usually won! Jim made my work so very pleasurable by simply knowing him.

We extend our condolences to you and other members of the family. Jim often spoke very warmly of his nieces and their husbands. When we didn't hear from him last Christmas, we knew that something was wrong.
As you probably know, I was dean of the Business School at the time Jim taught hundreds of grateful students. I am sure he had a profound influence on their lives. Jim can be proud of his legacy. I still can recall how everyone was dismayed when he retired. He will always be remembered by his former students and colleagues
