Jean Adler Obituary

Adler, Jean Found peace on August 16, 2009, at the age of 89. The devoted wife of renowned musician, Jerry Adler, since 1991, Jean was married to the late Dr. Rex Ruppa for 27 years. During World War II, Jean proudly served as a WAC in New Guinea and the Philippines, where she earned the rank of Tech Sergeant. Jean was an expert knitter, a remarkable needle pointer, an avid reader, a bridge player, the baker of irresistibly delectable schaum tortes, and a world traveler who loved and was loved by her family and friends. Jean will be remembered as the loving mother of Jim (Barbara Simon) Ruppa, Paul (Pamela) Ruppa, Dan (Sandy Alvarez) Ruppa, and Betsy (Joe Deal) Ruppa. She was stepmother to Susan Lantis and Michael (Astrid) Adler. Proud grandmother to Dale (Tracy) Long, Meredith Deal, and the Ruppas: Joe, Bradley, Isabela, Solomon, JoAnna, and Andy. Great-grandmother to Brianna and Jacob Long. She is also survived by her brother, Marvin (Bea) Pill; niece, Ellen; and nephews, Michael (Carol) and Richard Pill. The family is grateful and echoes Jean's gratitude to the nurses, aides, and the Allay Hospice workers at Seven Oaks. Deepest thanks to her loving and devoted caregiver, Alice Ramsey. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, the American Cancer Society, the ALS Association, or the Veteran's Administration of Milwaukee County (VAMC). A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Congregation Shalom, 7630 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Fox Point.
