Jeff and I went to the same camp in Wisconsin for a couple summers. Still, he called me when he was in town (Cincinnati) and we went out and played tennis and had lunch. He was a very good tennis player and wonderful guy. I remember thinking how thoughtful it was for him to reach out to me like that. It really saddened me to learn of his passing. I bought his charming children's book, about Hank Aaron, "Baseball Brothers," and reviewed on Amazon.

I still miss Jeff. He was one of my good buddies, in high school and beyond. Hope he has been resting in the peace that eluded him much of his adult lifetime. Love you Jeffrey

I first met Jeff at Stanford, where we played tennis and often partnered in doubles, although we both wondered if we'd seen each other at a junior tournament somewhere north of Chicago. We shared many times at Stanford trying to figure out what life might have in store for each of us (and everybody else!), enjoying every moment. When he visited me in California while promoting his beautifully crafted Hank Aaron children's book in the mid-70s, it was as if we'd never lost touch with each other in the intervening years; my memories of playing endless games of "10 points" on the court while never keeping score -- and ribbing each other no end -- are etched in my heart. That our paths did not cross after that time is a regret I must now release after so many years later coming across the sad news of his early end of time. Playful, ingenious, thoughtful and big-hearted, Jeff lives on in my life as an exemplar of friendship, and I thank him one more time by offering my belated and sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Doug Jacobs, what a nice idea to honor the memory of a wonderful guy. It has been since high school that I last saw Jeff. He is one of those people of whom I only have good memories. Jeff, you are the best, see you at the infinite reunion.

My big brother's good friend, my childhood friend's first true love, my co-godparent for Charlie and Sam... truly a caring, gentle soul. I'll miss you, Jeffy, but at least I can still see your smile in my mind's eye.

Dear Jake: Talent and humility are a rare combination. You were a true leader without having to be a "steady rider."

Jeff was an insipration for me in High school. I have never forgotten his energy, enthusiasm and leadership. He always made time to be helpful, no matter who you were. I never felt inferior around him even though he was a high achiever and I was not. Today, I owe a lot to his fine example and have been able to reach beyond my self-imposed limits and accomplish more than I could have imagined back in high school. This in part due to the example he showed me during the six years I knew him, and the image I carried with me and called upon often throughout my career.

Jeff was a kind and considerate man. His constantly beaming face was a trademark of who was. He set a wonderful example for all of us. I am so glad I had a chance to be with him during our 35th high school reunion, and to see him revel in the close friendships that he had made during his younger years.

My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. He was such a smart, entertaining and supportive person to be around. During my care giving for Bea we become good friends and we spent lots of hours talking to each other. You have my deepest sympathy. My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead.

Our family loved Jeff and his pervasive goodness. Jeff made an everlasting positive impression on our three sons when they were in jr. high. He was a member of our family during his Boston years. He will live on in the collective memory of the Agranat family. It was our good fortune to know him and love him.

Jeffrey was my friend for over 40 years. He had such a sweet heart, and with all that he grappled with over the years he remained so sweet. We never really lost touch with each other, and now I want to wish him the peace he did not find during his years here. As his brother David said, it was hard not to love Jeff.
