Jerome Holz Obituary

Holz, Jerome James On Friday October 27, 2017 Jerome J Holz "Jerry" rejoined his darling Dorothy whom he missed so much since her passing in 2009. Throughout their lives they were dedicated to their family, their community, their work, and Holz Motors. Jerry always attributed his success to Dorothy. Every day he would say "She was my pal". Jerry's positive attitude and forward thinking made him always believe "The best is yet to come". He delighted in sharing his favorite toast with friends, "Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift, which is why it's called the present." His family will hold those words close to their hearts and honor him by making every day precious-just as he did. He was the 5th and youngest child of Rudolph and Gertrude Holz. Rudolph and Gertrude founded Holz Motors, which marked it's 100th anniversary in 2014. Jerry loved the car business. As he put it, "Where else could I meet so many people and look forward to going to work each day?" A dealership is a team, and Holz Motors' success through the years is the result of the hard work, talent, and dedication of it's employees. Jerry was so proud that Holz Motors has celebrated 31 consecutive years as Wisconsin's largest Chevrolet dealer. Jerry's trusted business partner and closely held friend Doug has carried out Jerry's corporate duties and will continue to lead as Vice President of Holz Motors. Jerry proudly served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. Jerry's active duty consisted of driving all kinds of military trucks in France, Belgium and occupied Germany, delivering gasoline and other materials to American troops. Jerry was very active in the Masonic Fraternity throughout his life, holding many important offices and having many of the highest honors of the Fraternity conferred upon him. Despite these accolades, his favorite moments as a Mason included a spirited game of gin rummy, sharing fraternal camaraderie, and mentoring new Masonic Brothers. The banking business was also an important part of Jerry's life. He served as Chairman and President of State Bank Hales Corners. He was proud to be a part of the growth from SBHC to SFB, and then SFSC. He felt privileged to work with the talented and dedicated employees, officers, and directors. Whether it was at the bank or Holz Motors, he wanted every customer to know that he appreciated their business. He made a difference in many lives, and even touched thousands of people he never met through his and Dorothy's philanthropic work. Jerry was often the life of the party. He loved summer days at the lake, fishing and hunting trips, travel, golfing, playing cards, polka music, and a fine glass of vodka with enough blue cheese stuffed olives to share. He made delicious pancakes and chili. He loved to see people having a good time, whether it was attending a Holz Motors celebration, hosting his annual Harvest Fest, or enjoying a Cousins' Party where everyone knew him as "Grandpa". He loved going out to eat. The family would like to thank all the people who served him at his favorite places. Please remember his smile. He appreciated you. He will live on forever in the memories of his daughters, Judy Holz ( Dr. William) Stathas, and Barb (Dave) Weis, as well as the apples of his eyes, grandchildren J.J. and Traci Weis. Dad, we will miss Family Sundays with you. We would like to thank his friends and partners in his success, Doug and Kathy, Don and Gwen, and Mike and Sheila. We are grateful for the people that were instrumental in helping him these last few years including Gerry and Micaela, Susie, Nancy, Janis, Maryann, Sharon, and Debbie. There are no words to express our loving thanks to the people who granted him his last wish of staying in his home, Grace, Rosita, Dana, Aida, Marcia, and Kathe. Visitation at Hartson Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 15 from 3 to 8 PM. A Celebration of Jerry's life will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, November 16th with a Masonic Service and Military Honors beginning at 10:30 AM. Private Entombment: Wisconsin Memorial Park.

In reflecting back on my business relationship with Jerry, I recall the many instances when he would introduce my as his advisor, when in reality I learned more from Jerry than all four years in college. He was a true friend and I frequently think about all the wonderful times Gwen and I had together with Dorothy and Jerry and how much he contributed to my personal and business life. What a GUY, I miss him.

We wish the Holz family unending comfort and peace as they cherish all that Jerry was, and, will remain in our memories.

We were all so lucky to have known him.

As a Hales Corners "neighbor" since 1957, I've forever been proud to share w/others who've asked me where I live by responding, "You know...where Holz Motors is located!" Never fails...works every time!
My pride of living here coincides w/the knowledge that people equate community quality w/a successful local business environment. Mr. Holz & his entire organization have constantly surpassed that standard of excellence for as long as our family has resided here.
It was my privilege to stop & chat w/Jerry in his office every time I picked up parts or sought sound automotive advice. It's sad to see his office empty but I know his gracious & giving spirit will greet me whenever I walk through those doors.
Rest in Peace, dear Sir.

I was hired as a service advisor back in 1981. The first day he came out to the service department and introduces himself. After about a 5 minute conversation, his last sentence was "always take care of the customer." In my opinion, that philosohpy was the cornerstone of his business.

He treated both his customers an employees with respect. He was kind, honest and a man of his word.

My condolences to his loving family

I've been in the automobile business for 40+ years, and worked at
various dealerships from here to California. Although I respected my
past employers, I've always had a very high regard from a distance
for Holz Chevrolet and the ethics they were known for in the
community. My aspiration and inspiration was to join Jerry Holz' team
sometime in my career. I did that nearly 15 years ago, and it was
truly an honor to do so. Jerry & I had many interesting
conversations...kinda like talking to a good friend or relative...no
t like a boss. He didn't mince words...he spoke his mind and told it
like it was! I liked that. He ended all Holz events with "The Best is
Yet to Come!" I asked him why he used that bit of inspiration each
time...and he answered me with..."If the best were already here,
there would be nothing to look forward to!" I will miss him, but will
always remember him as a man of strong scruples and wisdom! I know
how much he missed Dorothy, and so glad they are finally reunited!
May you rest in peace, and be forever blessed eternally!

My relationship with Jerry started as a business relationship over 45 tears ago, much to my benefit, since my learning experiences from him relating to the business world exceeded anything that is taught in college. He referred to me as his advisor, but I knew that I was the one that was receiving a wealth of knowledge and advice and I am so grateful for that. Fortunately, our relation developed into a personal friendship with a lot of fun golf, and dinners and lots of social events that included our spouses. The personal relationship resulted in Jerry mentoring me in handling various situations outside our business relationship, once again I benefited from his wealth of knowledge, much of it good common sense which is frequently forgotten.

Jerry, our friend, is gone but our memories of the good times we enjoyed with him will never be gone.

I'll never forget your Dad, Barb.. as he was always a welcome smiling surprise at your back door of your first Green House. He always had a kind word with his smile and always gave the benefit of the doubt, which is such a strong attribute that you yourself also give. He will truly be missed by many as the wave of his memory puts a smile on everyones face that knew him..I always feel that the greatest accomplishments in life are the ones you leave behind.. Children & Grandchildren. You were blessed and and so was he.. My Deepest Sympathy as your Dad was a Great Man to have known.
