Joan Patricia Clark

1946 - 2014

Clark, Joan Patricia Joan passed away on October 18, 2014, in Milwaukee following a heart attack. She was 68. Joan was born In New York City in 1946, the fourth of six children of Edward and Mary Clark. She grew up in New York City, Dumont, New Jersey and South Burlington, Vermont. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 1968 and Marquette Law School in 1979. Joan married William Guis in 1982. Joan was a passionate and kind advocate, partner, and friend, who spent much of her life and ferocious intellectual energy as a leader fighting for the rights of others in Milwaukee. She was particularly noted for her leadership in fighting for women's rights during the 1990s. Joan is survived by her husband, William; her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Lynette Olsen of Portland, OR; her daughter and son-in-law Ellen and Jeffrey Gayton of Ashland, OR; her daughter and son-in-law Kathy Guis and Andy Warner of San Francisco, CA; her daughter Lisa Guis of Brooklyn, NY; and four grandchildren.
