Linnie Malmarowski Obituary

Malmarowski, Linnie Nadine "Peggy" (Nee Straehl) Of Milwaukee, WI, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, October 11, 2009, at the tender age of 88. Peggy was born August 10, 1921, in Kansas City, MO. Peggy graduated Cudahy High School in 1939, and worked a variety of jobs including one at a shoe factory, where she met her husband, Teddy. They married in 1942. She worked as a cook at Country Gardens Restaurant, where her love of good food blossomed. Survived by her daughter, Ruth "Corky" Wichmann with husband, Barry; daughter, Carol "Cookie" Stearle; daughter, Lisa "Cricket" Malmarowski and partner Pam Mehnert; grandchildren, Bryan Wichmann and wife Ruth, Carrie Schaaf and husband Stuart, Angela Puls and husband Mike, David Stearle and wife Carla, and Ryan Stearle and wife Keisha; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Elaina, Maria, Elizabeth, Mackenzie, Eva and Jackson; sister-in-law, Louise Straehl; as well as extended family and a large circle of friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Flora Jane Straehl, father William Straehl, husband Theodore "Teddy" Malmarowski, brothers Charles "Buddy" Straehl and William "Billy" Straehl, and dear friend Ruth Buchholz. She lived independently, with humor, generosity and optimism tempered with a healthy dose of stubbornness. When she wasn't reading, she was crafting meticulous ornaments, knitting or trying out a new recipe. Her other interests included creative writing, making donuts with her great-grandchildren and storytelling, all peppered with her wry sense of humor and infectious laugh. Peggy summed it up best, "I count my blessings each and every day. I've never looked at a glass as half empty; it's always been half full. I'm thankful too, for my many friends and family. Bless them all." Memorials in Peggy's name may be made to Literacy Services of Wisconsin, 2724 W. Wells Street, Milwaukee, WI 53208. Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday at the Funeral Home, from 2:00-4:30 PM, with remembrance and prayer at 3:00 PM. JOHN J. Cookie, Corky and Cricket - I am a "long lost" relative who lives in KC. My grand mother was your grandmother sister.....Aunt Dixie (or Mae). I loved your grand mother dearly...when she was in KC one time she went with us to pick out my wedding dress. I really didn't know your Mom very well, but I do remember her.......my husband is also a "Ted". Skip sent me an email to tell me your Mother had passed away. I'm so sorry. My Mother is Opal...age 96 1/2 and lives with us. She sends her sympathy as well.

I remember her as always happy and optimistic -- a wonderful lady. She also enjoyed ceramics & avon. I grew up with Cricket on 15th Street and I worked with Peggy at Country Gardens back when life was simpler. I have since lost touch. Small world -- Brian & Ruth are wonderful people who also found their way to Port Washington. My prayers are with you all. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Aunt Peggy was creative and generous with her love. She was always making something wonderful from nothing. Her laughter put things into perspective and her kindness and generosity will always be among my memories of growing up. Sandy Straehl (daughter of Bill and Louise)

Aunt Peggy will be always with me. She loved all of us deeply. And we loved her. Thanks be to God for her and Moms closeness. I will continue to remember her fondly. PS

I wanted to correct one of her great grandchildren's names... it's Ava, not Eva.

Our mom will be missed immeasurably, and for those of you who didn't know her, she was truly one of a kind.
