Louise Serebin Obituary

Serebin, Louise Louise White Serebin, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and traveler of the world, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 28, surrounded by the family she raised and loved. She was the daughter of missionaries, born and raised in Lebanon and relocated to Santiago, Chile due to WWII. She attended Macalester College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1950. Upon graduation, she moved to Hawaii with a group of friends, became a Medical Technologist, and continued to work full time and raise seven children while living in Hawaii, Seattle and Milwaukee. Her love of travel continued throughout her life. She traveled with her children and friends to all corners of the earth from China to Alaska to Germany to far-flung ranches on the Pampas of Brazil, and most recently to Egypt in June of 2009. Throughout her life she taught us all through her actions. She was selfless, had strong faith, deep respect for all people and unending love for her large family. Louise was active in the community with her many circles of friends. She had been a member of North Shore Presbyterian Church since 1962. She was a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts of America and a part of the Silver and Gold Ladies, camping and traveling with her friends up until her death. She was an avid reader, quilter, knitter, and seamstress who also enjoyed swimming and water aerobics at the JCC and Whitefish Bay High School. She is survived by her children: Linda (Alan) Gemer, Sara Perszyk (Cheryl Cawthon), David (Lynn) Serebin, Lisa Serebin (Dan Stromberg), Sandy (Ron) Curran, Daniel (Tara) Serebin, and Laura Serebin (Kelly Baldridge); grandchildren A.J., Larissa, Tysen, Riley, Travis, Haley, Jake, Sam, Kate, Felicia, Carolyn, Zack, Molly; great -granddaughter Arcadia; sister Kathy (Don) Hitesman; brothers Larry White and Charles (Mary) White; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at North Shore Presbyterian Church on Monday, February 1, at 4 PM, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to North Shore Presbyterian Church for the Youth Mission Fund.
