Marjorie Thomas Obituary

Thomas, Marjorie (Nee Norwood). Madison. Born into Eternal Life February 12, 2009, age 81 years. Born March 22, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio, to Joseph Hayden Norwood and Ruth Cornish Norwood. Graduate of E.D. Libbey High School, Toledo, Ohio. Practiced interior decorating for the Radcliffe Company of Toledo, Ohio until she married John Richard Thomas on October 13, 1951. After a brief tour of duty in Germany they settled in Belmont, Massachusetts. In 1959 they moved to Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, where they raised their children. She was always a devoted and skillful mother, and an enthusiastic grandmother. While in Whitefish Bay she became interested in the making of scale miniature rooms and houses, eventually teaching the craft at MerryCrafters in Whitefish Bay. She began her membership in NAME, the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts there. In 1980 they moved again to Madison, there she became a founding member of MAME, the Madison Area Miniature Enthusiasts, and worked and taught at the Midvale Hobby Shop. For the last several years she was intensely involved with her close friends, the Wednesday Girls, who met with her in her basement workshop every Wednesday to spend a day of enjoying each other, and working on their individual Miniature projects. She was the dear mother of Eric (Sally) Thomas of Brookfield, WI; Elizabeth (John) Harrigan of Woodbury, MN; and Marilyn (Jack) Henrich of Cottage Grove, WI. While she lived in Whitefish Bay she was also the loving boarding mother of Sue Slinger (now Sue Griswold) from Randolph, WI, while Sue attended school in Shorewood. She was the loving grandmother of Joseph (Annie), William, and Jessica Thomas, Michael and Connor Harrigan, Daniel McCarty, Isabelle Henrich and Sabrina (Eric Wagner) Henrich, and great-grandmother of Logan Wagner. She was the dearest sister of Persis Norwood Betts of Raleigh, NC, and the beloved sister-in-law of Joan and Richard Mercer of Forest Park, OH, James and Marsha Thomas of Niceville, FL, Elizabeth (Betty) Thomas of Toledo, OH, and Jean Thomas of San Angelo, TX. She was faithful "staff" to Flash, the beloved cat. Marjorie is further survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and countless friends. The family wishes to extend their gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of HospiceCare, Inc. for their loving care they provided Marjorie and her family. A visitation with the family will be held Friday, February 20, 2009, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, in Madison. The Memorial Service will be at First United Methodist, 203 Wisconsin Avenue in Madison at 11:00AM, with a visitation beginning at 10:00AM until the time of service. The family would like to request memorials in Marjorie's name be made to First United Methodist Church, or HospiceCare Inc. We love you Mom and you are forever in our hearts.
