Mary Anne Halter

Milwaukee - Mary Anne Halter (nee Miller), age 84, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin passed away on November 24, 2020. She was born in Chicago, IL on March 14, 1936, and moved to Valparaiso, IN for high school, where she was vice-president of the Student Council as well as a participant in numerous other student organizations, from Science Club to Pep Club. Mary, at the top of her class in high school, was nominated a class leader at Marquette University her freshman year. Mary was the eldest of two children born to Clement and Mary (Weldele) Miller of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal in 2000. Survivors include her brother Clem, of Crown Point, Indiana; sons Joe, Robert, John, Tom; daughters Mary (Lerner) and Anne; grandchildren Lukas Lerner, Hannah Lerner, Aren Lerner, Matthew Halter, Lyla (Halter) Hastings, Erin (Halter) Varner, Grant Halter, Emily Lindquist, and Kai Halter; great-grandchildren Eveline and Remi Lerner. She was an active spirit in the Milwaukee area for over 60 years working at Wauwatosa Realty, Nancy's Nook, and Boston Store while raising her 6 children. Mary, always an accomplished piano player, learned irish harp later in life and played frequently at weddings, Irishfest and Whitnall Park. She ran a youth hostel for a number of years in Milwaukee, housing traveling young adults, as her own brood left her home to start their lives. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee WI. In lieu of flowers, any donations will go to a memorial paver at the Mitchell Park Domes.
