My condolences. Although I did not know her well personally, I knew her well through Julie when we were in school together at Madison. I would have come to see you at the service, but read the paper too late to attend. My thoughts are with you all. Julie, I would like to hear from you. [email protected]

To Tom and all Mary's family, I want to express my sympathy. But more than that, I want to share some childhood memories that Mary and I would reminisce about on the rare occasions when we would get together.
When I would make my annual trek to Wisconsin from Ohio, I would occasionally call her and we would meet for dinner or lunch. One of us would surely mention "Maple Phosphates" which would inspire chuckles and giggles as we remembered riding our bikes while shouting "Full Speed Ahead" to Seifert's Drug Store (long gone), and ordering maple phosphates at the solid marble soda fountain. We were across-the-street friends, and the first time Mary invited me over after they moved in, we played a game called Big Apple at the kitchen table with baby "Tommy" watching from his buggy. That should tell you how long ago our friendship started.
We had great imaginations in our childhood play. Sometimes we were cowboys, sometimes mad scientists, sometimes we actually played house, sometimes we fished down at the river behind the barn. But the most fun was playing "Tarzan" in the Mayer orchard. Mary was "Sheena, Queen of the Jungle". I was Camilla. We each staked out our own tree to "live" in. We continued to play this wonderful game until we started to notice the boys, or maybe it was when the boys noticed us...up in the trees! When they wanted to know what we were doing up in those trees, all tree-climbing stopped.
Yes, we had many happy memories of our childhood. My only regret is that I didn't call her during my visits to Wisconsin the last few years. We always believe we have more time.
And then time runs out.
Blessings to all of you.
