Maureen Walker Obituary

Walker, Maureen Elaine (Née Buenzli ). Passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on June 2, 2015 after a two year battle with cancer. Maureen was a wonderfully generous mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. Born August 3, 1949 to Howard and Margaret Buenzli in Madison, Maureen attended Edgewood High School and St. Norbert College, earning a Bachelors in Education. After graduation, she worked as a teacher, homemaker, and eventually in health care. She made countless trips to Washington, DC, New York City, and London, England to visit her children. She also traveled to and explored many other domestic and international destinations with family and friends, fueled by her love of history and adventure. She filled her free time as a skilled bridge partner, enthusiastic docent at Ten Chimneys, and doting grandmother. Maureen will always be remembered for her quick wit, loyal friendship, and love of vodka gimlets. She is survived by her three children, Ryan Walker, Meaghan (Timothy) Dransfield, and Kathleen Walker; grandchildren Charlotte and Theodore; and her sister Marianne (Michael) Kennedy of Minocqua. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother H. Malcolm Buenzli. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 6 at St. Charles Catholic Church, 313 Circle Drive, Hartland, WI visitation at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass. Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 2705 Regent St Madison, WI at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 8. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Maureen Walker's name be made to The Ten Chimneys Foundation, PO Box 225, Genesee Depot, WI 53127, www.tenchimneys.org.

My memories of times with you go back as far as I can remember. What fun we had as kids. Your mom and dad were the best to all of your friends. It was always a warm household. I am so sorry I was not able to see you before you went to your next life.
Love,
Susan Schmitz

I am a docent at Ten Chimneys and always enjoyed the times Maureen and I spent together. I saw her last at a luncheon and we had a wonderful visit and laughed a lot (you always laughed with Maureen). She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. My condolences to her wonderful family.

Dearest Ryan, Meaghan and Katie,
I am so glad you all were able to spend so much valuable time together despite the miles between you. Family is everything and your mom was the best example of that. Good bless. Cheers to you Maureen....I will be enjoying a gimlet in your honor today.
