Patricia Zalewski Obituary

Zalewski, Patricia Lynne (Nee Petkus) Age 74. Born to Eternal Life on April 29, 2012, with her family at her side. Wonderful wife of Tom for 54 years. Loving mother of Tom II (Ann), John (Heidi), Michael, George (Kathy), Mary Sylvester (Mike) and Mark (Tara). Pat's 14 grandchildren Max, Jade Marie, Michael John, Tony, Shannon, Zak, Dan, Jeep, Tommy, Jack, Joe, Neil, Cameron and Kieran were the joy of her life. She will be dearly missed by her family, many friends and all who knew her. Patricia was born in Chicago and raised in Sioux City. She attended Loretta Heights College in Denver, Marquette University and graduated from Mount Mary College. She was an accomplished multimedia artist who so enjoyed working in the fields of watercolor, batik, decorator quilting and jewelry making. Her ability to manage a family of 7, travel all over the world and her enthusiasm for life while battling the pain, weakness and blindness of Myasthenia Gravis for the past 45 years has been remarkable. Come celebrate her life with her family. Visitation Friday, May 4, from 9:00 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, at the Cathedral of St. John Evangelist, 812 N. Jackson St., Milwaukee. A reception will follow in the atrium of the Cathedral. Per her wishes, Pat's body has been donated to the Medical College of Wisconsin. Special thanks to her caregivers at the Lutheran Home, who cared. Memorials to the Open Door Café at the Cathedral of St. John.

George and everyone: We are very sorry, and we know the time had arrived for your mom to 'be born to eternal life' as it says in her obituary. That is a beautiful thought. For a brief but formative period in my life, I felt welcomed in your home and felt watched over by Pat like only a mother could do. We made it through that period safely, and I know she played a role in my own teenage survival. I will always feel that gratitude, and I hope my son will have someone like her in his life one day.
