Peter Goldberg Obituary

Goldberg, Peter Age 63 of Mequon, passed on Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, while on vacation in Maine with his wife, Betsy. He was born on July 14, 1948. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Betsy, of Mequon; daughters Jessica, of Washington, D.C. and Shelly, of Sunnyvale, CA; father Milton Goldberg of Copiague, NY; and sister Jill Wood of Hershey, PA. He was the beloved nephew of Carol Pesner. At the time of his death, he was president and CEO of Milwaukee-based Families International, Inc., the nonprofit parent organization of several organizations. His leadership roles within the Families International group of companies extended to the Alliance for Children and Families, United Neighborhood Centers of America, Ways to Work, and FEI Behavioral Health. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School and the State University of New York at Albany. Prior to joining the Families International group of organizations in 1994, he was special assistant to the director for the federal government's National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (1979-1981); project director of the New York State Heroin and Alcohol Abuse Study (1981-1982); head of Primerica's foundation and its social responsibility programs (1982-1988); and president of the Prudential Foundation (1990-1994). He provided his wealth of knowledge and innovative ideas to numerous nonprofit boards of directors and committees. First and foremost, Peter was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and nephew. He was also a nationally-recognized advocate for the nonprofit human services field and the integral, mission-driven services it provides to vulnerable citizens. Services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 18, at 10 AM, at Congregation Sinai, 8223 North Port Washington Rd., Fox Point, WI 53217. In accordance with Jewish custom, no flower arrangements are to be sent to Congregation Sinai. Rather, memorials may be made to Alliance for Children and Families, 11700 W. Lake Park Drive, Milwaukee, WI 53224.

Dear Betsy, Shelly and Jessica,
Peter a valued counselor and advisor, a warm and gracious man, who knew that the way to the head is through the heart.
We were all neighbors on Holly St. NW, I was a grantee when Peter was at Prudential and a bold funder of the Advocacy Institute, we worked together many times at the Alliance and the Independent Sector. All of that activity and action, that thought and reflection was pure joy. It's a lasting memory.
We were close enough and personal enough for me to know how much he loved each of you.
May his name be a blessing always.

Dear Goldberg Family,
Please accept my deepest sorrows and condolences. For at John 6:40, God’s words gives us hope. “For this is what the will of my Father is, that everyone that beholds the Son and exercise faith in him should have everlasting life, and I will resurrect him at the last day.” We can take comfort in knowing that what God promise’s he will see it come true. May you continue to look deep into God’s word for he gives comfort to all those seeking him.
