Peter Leichtfuss Obituary

Peter Samuel Leichtfuss

Peter S. Leichtfuss, age 51, died peacefully on August 4, 2020 after a brief illness. Born August 15, 1968 in Milwaukee to Irvin and Susan (Muscato) Leichtfuss. Peter is survived by his mother Susan; his sister Ann (Ryan) Schuelke; his nieces Ainsley and Audrey Olen and his nephew Anderson Olen; and many cherished friends and extended family members. Peter was preceded in death by his father. Peter graduated from Brookfield Central High School, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Oregon School of Law. Upon graduation from law school, Peter worked as a Judicial Clerk in the U.S. District Court, was a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine, was Of Counsel at Larkins Vacura and then opened his own firm in 2008 where he focused on real estate law. Peter was a member of the Oregon State Bar, Washington State Bar and Multnomah County Bar Association. During his years as a lawyer, Peter worked pro bono with various non-profit organizations, received awards for his work and spoke at professional conferences. Peter loved spending time with his dogs who provided him with countless hours of love, entertainment and companionship. Peter was a consummate traveler, telling stories about his adventures and inspiring others to travel. Peter continued his father's lifelong passion for history and reading, loved playing and listening to music and found solace in fly fishing. Peter's sense of humor and appreciation for all of the wonderful experiences and people he had in his life will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

I was Peter's roommate in college and travelled with him in SE Asia in the early 1990s.

He was my brother and a week hasn't past when I don't miss him.

The world is lessened by his absence. Makes me want to believe in god and heaven so I will meet my friend again. But I won't. Miss you brother

I knew Peter as a real estate attorney who assisted me greatly in negotiating an important lease. I am a small business owner and appreciated his help in the lease negotiations. In getting to know him, we often spoke of our dogs, since at that time I had a team of four. We often laughed when we met about those furry friends of ours. I remember him telling me, I won't let this prospective tenant take advantage of you. And, indeed, he didn't. I knew he was very close to his family. I am certain he will be missed greatly. I am so very sad in hearing of his passing. I will miss his kindness and expertise in his field.... To his family, I extend the greatest condolences. I know his dogs will be taken care of with love. All the best to you.

I was very surprised to read of Peter's untimely passing in the February/March Oregon State Bar Bulletin. I shared an office with Peter at the Oregon DOJ, clerked with him at Lane Powell, and then worked with him at Lane Powell after we finished law school (though I went to L&C, not UO). I have fond memories of him and often tell a story which involved him. When I left the practice of law, I lost touch with him. I am not sure what prompted me to read the obits in the bar magazine, but fortunately, it gave me an opportunity to offer my condolences.

Brian.

I worked with Peter for the last 13 years and have learned so much from him. He shared with me that one of the key reasons that he started his own practice was to be able to provide more support to the real estate community without necessarily billing for every minute of work. He helped many of my clients not only with representation, but also with invaluable advice without charging a penny. Peter, you will be sorely missed!

I have fond memories of Pete originally through his Multnomah Bar volunteer involvement but then just getting right for a beer or lunches. He was fun and both light & good hearted. Sorry to hear the news and sending condolences to the family. Mona Buckley

Peter was the brightest of real estate attorneys who was able to identify the problems quickly and find sensible solutions even faster. He helped me on two occasions, each time doing his work really well. I sent along several people to him, one with a tough problem and Peter successfully solved his dilemma. He was who you wanted as a lawyer as the best are not always so pleasant. He was capable and kind. Larry Sokol

Our condolences to Peter's family and friends. Peter is/was my neighbor and he also helped me with some business transactions and networking. He was always a special neighbor because although I met him in Oregon, we both graduated from the same high school in Brookfield. In our community he was involved, well liked and trusted. He will be missed.

Peter kindly helped me with a couple of real estate problems and handled each one carefully and successfully. He was open, cheerful and was what is referred to as a lawyer's lawyer because of his significant intellect and total desire to do the right thing in figuring out how to assist anyone fortunate enough to have him as their counsel. I and many others known to me are so sad at the early end to his life and the fine career he created helping others. Larry Sokol

Susan and Irv had legendary wonderful parties in Elm Grove. Sometimes Peter and I had heartfelt conversions there and I treasure those old and elder memories. I am so sorry for the loss of this sensitive and smart being. I plan to meet his presence in the future and share all of his passions and interests. My condolences to Annie and Susan. Hope you both now will be guided by angels . Carol Cannon
