Rayleen and her twin brother Ronnie Weiner were neighbors when we were growing up on the South side in Milwaukee. We met when we were 8 years old. They along with myself and my 2 brothers Kenneth Steinberg and Freddy Wilson were constant playmates in the 40's and 50's. We started grade school together and went on to Walker Jr. High and then on to Pulaski. We were always very close friends and when we started at Pulaski we had separate home rooms and sort of lost touch in those years but we have always talked on the phone and when we had our children we made sure that they met each other!
I got married and moved to Iowa and spent many years there but we didn't loose touch. In 1980 we moved to New Orleans and one year Kenny and Rayleen came to see Bill and me and we had such a great time! The times that we went to Milwaukee to see family I always made sure to see Rayleen and Kenny. I had planned on seeing them this next May but unfortunately that was not to be. I am so glad that I got to talk to her this past month when she was in the hospital and the re-hab center. Little did we know that it would be our last goodbye and I miss my dear friend and I'm sure that she is having a joyous re-union with Ronnie and her parents
