Richard Double Obituary

Double, Richard W. Heaven erupted with great cheers when Richard William Double arrived on Monday, April 15, 2013. Dick graduated from Whitefish Bay High School in 1965. He went on to attend UW Oshkosh (1970) and Marquette Law School (1973). Dick helped to grow his own private practice in law, establishing Double & Double as a well-respected local law firm. While his strong work ethic never ceased to amaze us, he found great fulfillment in giving back. He volunteered his time at The Gathering and The Appalachian Service Project. Dick never stopped looking for the opportunities in life to help others. Preceded in death by his parents William and Janice (nee Sullivan) Double and his sister Deborah Double. Above all, Dick was most proud of his four daughters; Shana (Brian) Callahan, Corey (Jamie) Boldt, Danielle (Vince Reuter) Double and Natalie (Jason) Fryda. Dick gave his girls the world. Also, survived by his brother Dennis (Christine) Double. Spending summers at the family cottage on Lake Denoon and trips to the North Woods were Dick's favorite safe havens. Dick is fortunate enough to be a "Poppi" to five grandchildren; Caroline, Ceili, Danny, Billy and Benjamin, with a sixth grandchild due in July. Dick's perseverance in attacking his disease with courage, grace, no complaints or fear is a lesson we'll never forget. In lieu of Visitation, a family reception will be held at The Western Racquet Club following the Mass. Relatives and friends are welcome to arrive at Christ King Church, (2604 N. Swan Blvd., Milwaukee) on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 3:30 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4 PM. In Dick's memory memorials may be given to the "Gathering" (people in the community feeding the hungry). It is with deep gratitude that we recognize and thank the nurses and physicians at Froedtert Hospital and The Lutheran Home, the amazing and gifted Annette Mueller and staff at Heartland Hospice, as well as all of our friends and family, especially our angel, Patrick Connor and Dick's loving caretaker, Tad Kozlowski. "It is our hope that the love, peace, and strength bestowed upon our family over the course of the last few years is returned to all".

I knew 'Dick' as my grandpa. He was, and forever will be my 'Poppi'. 12 years ago he passed away, and although I was only 6 at the time of his passing, from what I remember- he was truly my best friend. From swimming in Lake Denoon, to naps on the hammock, I remember always admiring my time with him. What I wish I would've known, was that my time with him was limited. Reading all of these beautiful entries from years ago is so refreshing; to see and learn more about my Poppi and his affect on other peoples lives. I will forever miss your smile, and laughter, and as a student at Marquette University- as he once was- I can say for certain, he is watching over me at all times. I love you and will continue missing you. Forever.

I was very sorry to learn of Dick's passing. I worked with Dick on numberous transactions when Dick represented St. Francis Bank. He was a man of honor, integrity and great skill. On a personal level, I enjoyed Dick's graciousness, humor and depth. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family.

Your entire family is in my thoughts and prayers. I am so blessed to have spent time with your Dad. He was such a great father and very giving man. I know you will miss his love of life...but you each carry it within you. You are an amazing family of women and now young men too. I know he is so proud of you all. Love.

I had the good fortune to know and work
with the Double family starting with Dad Bill who represented the Wisconsin Savings and Loan League in Madison and
handled legal work as well. Met Dick any number of times and always enjoyed
our conversations and his perspective on life. He was a good man. My condolences to the Double family.

After leaving American in the late sixties, came back in the late nineties, to renew a great friendship with Dick. As I was also ill, he visited me here in California several times...wished he would have visited me in Ireland, where I lived for 25+ years, but...he was a GOOD FRIEND.

I knew Dick Double from years of playing tennis. He was a man of dry wit with a constant gleam in his eye. His greeting to all he encountered was amplified and genuine. A true character, with true character. I will miss him.

April 18, 2013

Dick, you were a wonderful little boy and a lovely man...memories of Lake DeNoon, when your cottage was my parents and their wood stove was your TV....Yes, you are in heaven being blest as you so often blessed all of us...Peace to your family, Barbara Buckley Winkler

I met Dick at Oshkosh. His dorm room was next door to mine.
He was a fun fellow then, and when doing business with him many years later, was still that great, fun guy.
He definitely will be missed by all, but never forgotten.

April 18, 2013

Dickie, save us a seat and play a little three handed with Bobby and Al 'till Spider and I get there. You are a special friend and will always have a place in my heart...but geez, pick-up the pace, it's your play.
Love always,
