Richard J. "Dick" Ring

Richard Ring Obituary

Ring, Richard J. "Dick" Passed away peacefully at his home in Lake Geneva, WI, Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, with his wife and children by his side. A loving and devoted husband, Richard is survived by wife Mary Kay (nee Meares), and was a beloved father to children William (Margaret), Maria (Tom) Rill, Richard, John (Elizabeth) and Mollie. Cherished grandfather to Meghan, James, Christopher, Moira, Patrick, Caitlin, Brendan and Colin. Dear brother to Kenneth (Anita) and Edward (Sherry), and brother-in-law to Constance (the late Terrence). Fond relative to many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Mary Olive "Mae" (nee Maloney), son Peter, siblings William, Mary Lou Bain (Bill), Robert and Terrence. Born in Chicago on July 17, 1931, Dick graduated from St. Rita High School and joined the U.S. Marine Corps, proudly serving in the Korean War. He went on to the University of Illinois and received a bachelor's degree in business and later obtained an MBA from Northwestern University. He met and married Mary Kay Meares in 1964 and soon after started their family. They moved to Wisconsin in 1972 and bought a Chicago based steel service center, Dalco Metals. He relocated the company to Walworth, WI and worked carefully and tirelessly for 25 years, building and growing a successful business, which would be succeeded to his children. Dick retired in 1998 from the day-to-day operations of Dalco, but was always close at hand to assist his children. Dick had many interests, chief of those being the environment, hiking, golf, wildlife and automobiles. He also loved to travel and took many treasured vacations with his wife and family. His favorite thing, however, was simply to be at home surrounded by his family; eating a good meal and relaxing together made him happier than anything. Dick's successes enabled him to be a very charitable person and he supported many causes, including Marquette University, cancer and health charities, Wisconsin and Lake Geneva area causes, and numerous others. In that spirit, we ask that in lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the William Guy Forbeck Foundation, 23 Peninsula Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926 and Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin, P.O. Box 2317, Madison, WI 53701-2317. Visitation is to be at Haase Derrick Lockwood Funeral Home, 800 Park Drive, Lake Geneva, WI (262-248-2031) from 4:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday, Nov. 9, 2007. Funeral mass at 12:00 PM Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 148 Main Street, Lake Geneva, WI. Interment private.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful Dad with me. Among the things I admired most about him was his unfettered love for his family and how that extended to family friends, too! I love you all!! Amy
