Robert Costomiris Obituary

Costomiris, Robert John Age 45 years, passed away at 5:00 AM on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Ruth Hospice in Milwaukee, after a courageous battle with cancer. Robert is predeceased by his loving father Robert H. Costomiris. He leaves his grandmother, Marie Coskiano, his mother, Mary, his wife, Karen and two beautiful children, Zoe Marie, age 12 and Liam Robert, age 9. He is also survived by his two sisters, Susan Costomiris and Jodi Hammerle, and many close friends. Bob was born and raised in Queens, New York. He received his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania; and, he earned his MBA with honors from the University of Chicago. The pride and joy of Bob's life were his two children, Zoe and Liam. He was active in their daily activities, and he took great joy in being the Assistant Coach of Liam's hockey team, and listened with great pride to Zoe as she played Pachelbel's Cannon on her harp. Bob was a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager for the Disciplined Value Equity team at Wells Capital Management. Prior to joining Wells Capital Management, he held the same responsibilities at Strong Capital Management, which he joined in 2001. Prior to joining Strong, he spent four years as Director of Research at Thomson Horstmann & Bryant in New Jersey and four years as Senior Investment Consultant at Hewitt Associates in Chicago, Illinois. Bob was a member of the CFA Institute and earned the right to use the CFA designation. Immediately after the merger of the Strong Funds and Wells Fargo Funds in 2005, Bob was a very visible ambassador for the new Wells Fargo Advantage Funds. He was the subject of articles in Barron's, SmartMoney, and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, and his Funds were praised for steady, consistent performance in BusinessWeek and The Wall Street Journal. Bob was also a great contributor to broadcast public relations efforts, becoming a regular commentator on CNBC and Bloomberg TV. Dear Costomiris Family,
I just found out about Bob's passing and I am shocked & saddened. Bob was not only a great mentor to me but virtually an older brother. He always gave me such great advice. And he made me laugh like nobody's business. I don't think I ever spent any time with Bob when he didn't make me laugh. He had a big heart and I will never forget when he invited me to Jodi's house for Thanksgiving when he heard I wasn't going home. Warmest regards, David Marchesani

To the Costomiris Family- I want to express to you how very sad I am for your tremendous loss. I knew Bob at Penn and while we were friends at school, we lost touch after college. I can only imagine how proud you must be of him and all that he had accomplished and much you miss him! I remember how kind, thoughtful, generous, and respectful a person he was. He grew up in Queens like I did, and always offered to drive me home to Bayside when he was heading up to Jackson Heights- even after I got him terribly lost on the first trip! Having just read about his death this morning in the Pennsylvania Gazette, I am so stunned and profoundly saddened by this news.
Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers... and I wish you all strength and peace.

To the Costomiris family:
I was deeply saddened to read of Bob's passing in the Penn Gazette. I was Bob's freshman year roommate at Penn, and he had a great and special impact on me. Although we did not keep in touch after college, I think about him often. I have many memories of him that will always bring a smile to my face. I also am not surprised to learn of his great love for his wife and children. His love and devotion to his family was evident even as a young man.
May you find comfort knowing that Bob touched many lives, and that he remains fondly in our thoughts.

Dear Mary, Susan & Jodi,
I am so sorry and extremely saddened to hear of your loss. I just found out last night that Robbie was sick and had passed on. Not too long ago, I had seen his picture and an article in one of those business magazines. I was so happy for him when I saw it. He was always so smart. When I think of Masthope, I always think of Robbie and all the fun times we all had together! I will always remember his great sense of humor, how mature and smart he was and of course his beautiful eyes:) My deepest sympathy to your family.
Love
Deborah

To the Costomiris family, while only knowing Bob briefly, his impact was profound on me. I will never forget the generousity he displayed by giving up his tickets for a premier football game to a few comrades at Strong. What an individual - you can tell he really cared.

Dear Mary, Susan and Jodi:

My sincerest condolences to you and the entire family.

We will miss Robbie so much, but I know that he is with his Dad, looking down at us from Heaven. As we enter Holy Week, know that in Christ’s suffering, we draw strength in knowing that He, along with all His faithful departed, will rise up again; and, we also draw comfort in knowing that the joy of Easter is just beyond the horizon – this Sunday, April 12th.

As I reflect back in time, I recall with great fondness, the occasions where Robbie would play tennis with my Dad up at our country homes in Northern Pennsylvania. My Dad would often share with us how competitive Robbie was, and the two of them rarely missed an opportunity to play a good game!

My parents are so saddened, and heartbroken, and they too convey their condolences.

I came upon this poem, which so beautifully depicts the Lord’s work in calling a beloved home:

“God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be
so he put his arms around you
and whispered, " come to me "
with tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
although we love you dearly
we could not make you stay
a golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands laid to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
he only takes the best” – Unknown Author

Requiescat in Pace, Robbie.

In the Lord, Ray Narvaez

Dear Karen Zoe and Liam,
Our prayers and thoughts have been with you these past difficult months and weeks and will continue to be. What turned out to be a great surprise to find you as neighbors again has turned into sadness for your loss of a dad and husband. It was only yesterday Bob was talking about what big screen tv to get at the block party. We hope the memories will sustian you during a most difficult time. God Bless

Karen, Zoe, and Liam, Val and I are so sorry for your loss. I sit here typing and all I can think of is my conversations over the past few years with Bob, and the times we spent together so many years ago in Summit. And mostly what I remember is just laughing. I don't think I ever spent a moment with Bob where we didn't share a laugh or a smile. Those are wonderful memories to have. We will miss our friend deeply.

To the Costomiris family
I am so sorry for the loss of you son and brother. It was my pleasure to be able to meet and care for Robert the couple days I was able to at Ruths Hospice. The love for him was very evident by the family support and friends that were there for him. My thoughts have been with you over the last few days. May god bring peace to you and your family as you grieve this loss and may visions of a healthy, smiling Bob in heaven bring you joy!
