Robert Stepp Obituary

Stepp, Robert L. Age 84 years. Of Brookfield, WI. He passed away peacefully and comfortably with his wife, Roberta (nee Steege) holding his hand, on Tuesday, February 16, 2010. Bob was the loving husband of the late Joanne (nee Mikolajewski). He will be further remembered and dearly missed by his daughters, Laurel (Doug) Fields of Ann Arbor, MI, Carolyn of Naples, FL, and Shelly (Jim) Szymczak of Bartlett, IL; son, Tom (Jamie) of Elkhorn, WI; "Stepp"-son, Scott (Dee) Drezdon and "Stepp"-daughter Robin (Randy) Karinen, both of Milwaukee. He will be further remembered by his grandsons Ryan, Cameron, Tyler and Robert, and granddaughters Macy, Torrey, Haley, Rebbeca and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Mia, Giovanni, Juliann and Ricky; other relatives, friends and his faithful companion "Shadow". Visitation at the Funeral Home Sunday, February 21, 2010, from 4-7PM. Friends may join the family on Monday, February 22, for a gathering at St. Mary's Visitation Catholic Church, at the corner of Juneau and Church St., Elm Grove, WI, from 9:30AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10AM. Burial in St. Mary's Visitation Cemetery followed immediately by a celebration at Westmoor Country Club. Bob was born on July 7, 1925, the son of the late Leonard and Flora (nee Manske) Stepp, in Milwaukee, WI. He proudly served as a Navy Pilot training in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Tennessee. At the end of WWII, Bob returned home to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he graduated with a degree in accounting. After graduation, he took a job with the U.S. Treasury Department as an agent working out of the Milwaukee office. He later went on to work for Wisconsin Cold Storage as an accountant. His accounting career continued as he accepted a position at Jack White Ford, which eventually led to majority ownership in the dealership. He finished his life work at Automatic Fire and Protection Systems, where he retired in 1991. He was a hard worker and was proud of the many contributions he made to the few employers he had and the numerous people he led. Bob was instrumental in the incorporation of Elm Grove as a Village, and was a member of its volunteer Fire Dept. for many years. He was an avid golfer and member of Westmoor Country Club for more than 30 years. He was a past member of the Wauwatosa Curling Club and an active member of St. Mary's Visitation Catholic Church. He loved to support his alma mater (Go Badgers!), and rarely missed the opportunity to watch a football or basketball game. He was an equally enthusiastic Packer fan. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Elmbrook Memorial Hospital Cancer Center for research, deeply appreciated.

Bob and I met in 1974 when I was with Ford Motor Credit and Bob was the business manager of Jack White Ford. We had a rocky first meeting, but with the intervention of Jack Ford we became the best of friends and have remained so to this day. Dianne and I will miss you dearly Bob.

I met Bob Stepp when I started working at Jack White Ford as a lot attendant in 1973 when I was still in high school. My dad George Mullins had bought several Fords from Bob, given their working together at the IRS years before. Bob came to my father's wake in 1993. I regret to say that I slipped and have owned Hondas and Toyotas over the years, although I currently drive a Ford. ;) I'm currently a technology reporter in Silicon Valley. Condolences and best wishes to the Stepp family.

My sympathy and prayers are extended to the double family of Robert Stepp. I have known Robert, and his first wife Joanne for many years and have enjoyed their company both at the curling club, and at Westmoor. We have had many good times together. I know he has picked up his reservation in Heaven, and will watch over us survivers.
