Richfield - Dr. Roger Alan Daley, MD, PhD, 68 of Richfield, Wisconsin, died Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the UW Health University Hospital from complications following a double lung transplant for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Dr. Daley was born February 7, 1953, in Catskill, New York, the second son and one of six children of Frank and Natalie Daley. Dr. Daley graduated with the class of '71 from Catskill High School where he lettered in basketball, baseball and golf, played the lead in the junior class play, and served as senior class president. He attended Adrian College in Michigan, where he was elected freshman class president, and later transferred to State University of New York College at Oneonta, from which he graduated in 1975 with a degree in biology. He then enrolled in the State University of New York at Buffalo, receiving his PhD in Anatomy in 1982 studying cytoskeletal microanatomy under Dr. Barry Eckert, and his MD in 1985, fulfilling his lifelong dream to become a physician. He pursued an internship in general surgery at the University of Buffalo School of Medicine and completed residency training in orthopedic surgery with a fellowship in Hand, Upper Extremity & Microvascular Surgery at the Brown University-affiliated Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. In 1992 he married Kathleen O'Donnell, a nurse at Rhode Island Hospital, and together they moved to Milwaukee Wisconsin where Dr. Daley had a distinguished career on the faculty of the Medical College of Wisconsin as Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Director, Division of Hand, Upper Extremity & Microsurgery. From 1996-2003 he also served as Chief, Orthopaedic Surgery, Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI. Dr. Daley and his wife lived for 29 years on a 16-acre farm in Richfield WI where they pursued their creative passions while raising 6 children, dozens of prize-winning alpacas and llamas, as well as mini-horses and dogs. Dr. Daley was an exceptional skier and served as a member of the Ski Patrol at Heiliger Huegel Ski Club. His love and dedication to family and friends shone through in all he did, including his creative ventures in maple syrup sugaring, beekeeping, hunting, woodworking, theatre, farm projects, and art, all while keeping everyone entertained with his humor. His talents, love, and teachings will live on through his family, friends, colleagues, patients, students, and all who loved him. Dr. Daley is survived by his wife Kathleen, daughters Elizabeth Hallock, Alexis Daley, Chloe Daley, and Emma Daley and sons Michael Hallock, Roger Alan Daley, Jr (known as Hunter), siblings Frank, Allaire, Suzanne, George, and Elizabeth, and four grandchildren. memorial service will be held for family and friends at The Wisconsin Club / Country Club, 6200 Good Hope Rd, Milwaukee WI 53223 on July 9, 2021 from 2-6PM. He operated on my thumbs, one in 2007, and the other in 2014. He did a wonderful job. I am sorry to hear of his passing.

I only recently learned of Roger's death. I'm deeply saddened by the news.
Back in the 1990s while working with him in the old County Hospital main ORs, I chose him when my teenaged daughter needed hand surgery. Naturally, he did a magnificent job. Several years ago, she needed another hand procedure to repair a new injury. Again, he did a masterful job....and he remembered my daughter from 20 years before. She told me that they joked around like old friends. I don't doubt that.

So sad to hear of the passing of Roger. My sincere condolences to Kathy and the whole family. I will forever hold dear the year I spent with the Daley family as an Aupair in 2002. He taught me alot of life lessons that I will never forget. May he continue to rest in peace. Strength to the beautiful family left behind as they carry on life without Dr Roger Daley.

Roger Daley was a valued member of the Heiliger Huegel Ski
Patrol and his annual refresher sessions were always full.

He took our outdoor Emergency Care classes with Kathy and Michael that I taught and he added to them with his medical knowledge. I always assigned him on duty on H H race day as we usually had injuries then. I shall miss him as a friend a doctor and a ski Patrol member.

I am so saddened to hear that the world has lost a fabulous surgeon and loving father and husband. He was always willing to share his medical expertise while watching Emma lesson at Chestnut Hill. And most importantly he glowed when he talked about his family. My heart aches for your loss.
