Roy Piala Obituary

Piala, Roy On Christmas morning Roy's spirit left his body in the waves of the Pacific Ocean off a beach in Costa Rica. He was 26 and was on a much deserved Christmas vacation. Roy is a most beloved son of James and Catherine Piala and best buddies with his brothers Chad (Emily), Quinn (Amanda), Kurt and Glenn. Grandpa Piala survives Roy, as does Roy's beloved Molly Luterbach. He was loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and customers who nearly always became friends. Roy graduated from Waukesha West High School in 2003. He took many classes at MATC and worked his way up to part owner and manager of Piala's Nursery and Garden Shop, Inc. Customers marveled at Roy's vast knowledge of horticulture and his willingness to share it with them. Each year Roy looked forward to producing a beautiful crop of flowers and other plants for his customers. Roy loved animals of all kinds as evidenced by the flock of peacocks and other birds that roam the Piala's Nursery grounds. He also had a petting zoo for customers and his own enjoyment. He will be sadly missed by his blue heelers, Roxie and Blucee. Roy, our hearts are broken at your loss. Our faith gives us hope that we will soon meet again. Visitation Mon., Jan. 2, from 3-9 PM at the funeral home. A Vigil service will be held at 7 PM along with an open mike time for sharing stories. Please bring your stories of Roy. A second visitation will take place on Tue., Jan. 3, from 9-11 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2400 W. State Rd. 59, in Waukesha. Funeral Mass 11 AM. Burial at St. Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Roy's name may be made to The Wildlife in Need, W349 S1480 S. Waterville Road, Suite B, Oconomowoc, WI 53066 or to the family to be used according to their wishes.

Jim & Cathy,
I want to again express my sorrow for the loss of Roy. He was an incredible young man with an infectious smile. I will miss seeing him at Piala's in the summer as I stroll through the nursery looking for something new and exciting for my garden. He had been a frequent visitor to our backyard sitting around a bonfire when the kids were in high school. I referred to them fondly as the "Bonfire Boys". You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers always.

Our deepest sympathy to the Piala family and Molly. We are good customers of the Nursery, but over the years became very good friends with Roy. He truly touched our hearts and we always looked forward to spending time with him. Mr. Piala had said “He was an old soul. He had wisdom beyond his years.” I have heard that comment before about other people, but could never relate to that until I applied that phrase to Roy. A tremendous loss to all of us, he will be dearly missed.
