I had the pleasure of working with Russ on a number of projects in the 80's and early 90's. I leaned and great deal from him and enjoyed every minute of it because he was so much fun to be around. I loved his biting and sardonic humor.

Thank you to all who are posting, I'm glad you found his obit. It is especially gratifying to hear from former WEPCo co-workers. Dad loved the company and his career, and still enjoyed going back through his letters and telling us stories about his deeds, even if we had heard them before. You'll be happy to know that he was as sharp as ever right up until the end. He suffered a stroke and left us inside of 48 hours but we all had the opportunity to tell him we loved him. He fulfilled a goal of being able to stay in his home until the end, which is a blessing for nursing homes everywhere as he would have been an awful resident! Anyway, thank you for sharing your memories of this uniquely brilliant man. He could make it hard to be merely mortal, so I'm sure we all shared in the challenge of working and living with him, but we are all better for it.

Russ was my one of first bosses at Wisconsin Electric, and a wonderful mentor for my engineering and management career. And a great sage for choices in life. Russ imparted words of wisdom, often against the "prevailing current". I am honored to have known him, and have benefited from his wisdom.

Knew Russ from the late '60's through his retirement from WEPCo. He apparently went out as he lived. Good for him. We was an engineers engineer in all senses of the word. I recall his love for the hunt. A true character. I know he will be missed by his family and friends. True enough a one of a kind.

I knew Russ while working at Oak Creek PP. He was an honest and open person. Hell of A Engineer. He knew his profession. The world has lost a nice man.

I only met Russ once when I was a kid visiting the office, but he worked with my Dad at WEPCO. I listened to Russ Hantzsch stories for a lot of my growing up years. My dad, Neil, loved him. May perpetual light shine upon Russ. My dad already misses him.
