Ruth Eizen Obituary

Died October 28, 2004 after a five year valiant struggle with cancer. She met her diagnosis and endured it with perseverance and courage. Ruth was born and raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, she would say, "by wonderful parents", Dora and "Bill" Kuinn and ...an amazing brother, Max Kuinn and sister, Lorraine Gaines.

Despite her own burden and suffering, she continued in her usual kind, gentle, warm, caring style in providing comfort and encouragement to those around her who were in need of her comforting. She felt the good and the need in each, but very few knew that she, too, was ill. Her strong faith helped her to remain strong to the end.

Ruth graduated from Central High and continued at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was "pinned" by pharmacy student Harry Eizen, whom she had met at a ZAC New Year's Eve party at Club Sierra. They were married during WWII and spent the next five years in the Air Force, during which time Ruth worked at every Air Force base, enabling them to save money to buy a pharmacy after the war ended.

They gave birth to two beautiful daughters who now survive them, cherished Cheryl Johnson and Bonnie Jane Adelman.

After Ruth's beloved husband Harry died, she married Maurice Markey and became the fortunate family member and adored parent of Barbara and Ronald Bornstein, Richard Markey and grandparents of Jill and Leigh Bornstein.

While Ruth's daughters went to college, she resumed her education, graduating cum laude with a Master's Degree in social work and going on to Lexington, Kentucky University to learn and work with Albert Ellis and others to receive her certification as a psychotherapist.

Throughout her life, she also made time to be President of her daughters' PTA, President of ORT, President of AZO Auxiliary, President-elect of Wisconsin Pharmaceutical Auxiliary, Board of Mayor Maier's Beautification Committee, part-time lobbyist for Milwaukee School Board, Vice President and Trustee of Beth El Ner Tamid Sisterhood, State Coordinator of AARP's Citizen Representation Program, member of Jewish Home and Care Care Center Resident's Council, member of Better Film and TV Council Preview Committee, member of Glendale Women's Club and taught public speaking for Dale Carnegie.

She and her husband Harry dabbled in politics and were delighted to have attended President Kennedy's inauguration and ball.

Additional survivors include sister Lorraine Gaines, Glendale and sisters, Jen (Manie) Katz, Milwaukee, Sylvia (Herman) Kaplan, Albemarle, NC. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Ruth and her family express special thanks to the entire staff of Columbia/St. Mary's Hospice for their gentle and warm care.

Contributions to any cancer fund or charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Ruth's unselfish spirit of life will be celebrated at Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue, 2909 W. Mequon Road 112N, Mequon, WI on Mon., Nov. 1, 2004 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, 166 S. Hawley Ct.

It was an honor and privilege to be Ruth's nurse during her time at CSM Hospice... I will always remember her gentle and loving spirit, and her concern for her family and friends. She was an inspiration.
