Sandra Millard Obituary

Sandra L. Millard

Wauwatosa - July 4, 1945 - December 25, 2020

Sandra passed away peacefully on Christmas, surrounded by family, some via video and some in person.

Sandy was born Sandra Lee Johnson in Pipestone, MN on July 4th, 1945. In grade school she and her mother moved to St. Louis Park, MN followed by another move to Clear Lake, IA. Eventually they settled in Fertile, IA when her mother Christine married Joseph Johnson. Sandy attended Fertile High School until it closed after her Junior year. She completed her senior year of high school at Forest City, IA, graduating in 1963. She received her nursing degree from Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing in Des Moines, IA in 1965 & moved to Milwaukee, WI where she met her husband Gerald Millard, they were married on October 12, 1968. Both were very active in their church, and loved Jesus.

Sandy and Gerry adopted 2 sons that were their pride and joy, Ryan in 1979, and Eric in 1984.

Sandy worked as a nurse at Milwaukee Children's Hospital for several years before going back to her first love, psychiatric nursing, working for Aurora Psychiatric Hospital, where she ended her career in 2010.

Her last 10 years were bittersweet as dementia stole this smart lady away from friends and family. Her memory will live on with us.

She is survived by her two sons, Ryan & Eric Millard, 2 granddaughters, Hailey & Addison Millard and her sister and brother-in-law, Lisa & Doug Hansmeier and her niece, Abby Mullaney, and nephew, John Hansmeier.

Memorial visitation at SPRING CREEK CHURCH, N35 W22000 W Capitol Dr. in Pewaukee, WI on January 8, from 3-5:30pm with memorial service to follow.

I will never forget Sandy's intelligence, compassion, and overall kindness as she helped me in my career as a young psychiatrist. In my heritage she would have been regarded as a saint for all she did for the children, families, and staff during her career. I never saw her angry, or upset, or discouraged. For those family and friends who are deep in grief, consider yourselves blessed. I'm going to try my best to be like Sandy.
