Life takes us on many journeys we probably will never understand
but know that whatever we do it’s all in God’s plan.

People come-people go and some are here for a reason, a season or
maybe even a lifetime.

Take great comfort in knowing that Scott is now with the Lord
he no longer has to deal with the troubles of this world. His body is
gone but the memories of his smile, laughter, and hugs will live on.

So when you weep, weep for the good times, the happy times, the
milestones and the goals he has accomplished in this short time,
for the memories is what will help us realize he’s only asleep.

For all mankind death is a must but know Scott is now in heaven,
waiting for the rest of us, while PRAISING and STEPPIN’ for Jesus!

Scott was a temporary loan from God, and in him He gave us His best.
Be encouraged, be blessed and be comforted in knowing that God is truly taking care the rest.

Remember The Dash

Scott's life would began and end sooner than we would like
Leaving us all with questions, on a journey or even a hike
To the questions How? When? Why so soon?
Only God has the answers, so don't look up at the moon.
When you close your eyes and remember Scott's smile along with his sincere heart
The dash provides you with loving memories and it will only take you back to the very start

Stay strong in the Lord,

I met Scott when I started my career many years ago, and his gentle manner and kind heart touched me deeply. He was a dear friend and i regret that we did not keep in touch. To the family, be comforted that his grace touched so many- he will never leave us. My prayers are with you.

I would just like to take the time out an say to the family, that we are praying for you all, that god help you all get through these rough times, but also know that God has your back he took one (Scott) and gave you an Angle, so reminder eventhough he is not here on earth he will always be with you all. I can remember when Scott had his burg. Cadillac, and I would ask Scott if I could drive it with no questions asked he would say yes, when I would bring it back about an hour or so later he still wouldn't say anything, other then you can drive it again. Scott was a pleasent and very nice person and we all are going to mess him.

My deepest sympathy to the Mathis family. I remember a lot of wonder things about Scott, he was a friendly person and a wonderful dancer. I loved watching Scott and Vanessa dancing together because they were so smooth. When I took my first steppin class, he had so much patience with me because I didn't know what I was doing. He will be truly missed.

My son, "peace unto thy soul;thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment;
And then, if thou endure it well,God shall exalt thee on high;thou shalt triumph over all thy foes.

Scott's ability to make anyone he met feel welcome was a gift from GOD. His SMILE could brighten any room he entered. Although, he has left this Earth; he has not left our hearts. God has given us the gift of memories and that is what we will truely cherish. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Psalm 116:15

I remember Mathis at several parties including his birthday party- well dressed, smiling, friendly and dancing (steppin). The life of the party and a Will Downing look alike! His presence will truly be missed. My deepest sympathy to Matthis' family and especially his son. God heals all wounds in time and even though you are grieving now remember "joy comes in the morning" in knowing that you will see him again one day.

Scott and I worked closely together in the Milwaukee County Courthouse several years ago. His departure is a great loss for our community. I am sorry I will be unable to attend his services. Here are thoughts that came to my mind upon learning of Scott’s passing:

HIS SMILE WAS HIS BADGE

When Scott Mathis was born, on his face was a smile.
He would fight for the righteous, with grace as his style.

He commanded respect while enforcing the rules.
Gentle kindness and love were his special tools.

Scott’s sense of duty was his steadfast charge
To his family, his work and community at large.

He worked in the fields of misfortune, turmoil;
sowing seeds of tranquility in Milwaukee’s own soil.

To stranger and friend he would bring aid for sure
When Scott was nearby we were safe and secure.

His pride for Little Scott was unyielding and deep.
All the good he would plant he wants his son to reap.

Though he’s gone much too soon we must carry on
working Scott’s plan ‘cause it isn’t quite done.

In memory of Scott let’s follow his lead
with hard work and courage and generous deed.

His mission lives on; forgotten he’s not.
Every smile that we see will remind us of Scott.
