Sibylle Marks Obituary

Marks, Sibylle "Sally" Sally died December 7, 2012, at the age of 82, from cancer. Preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Friedman Matis and her father, Solomon Matis, she is survived by her husband Raube "Robb", step sons John and James Marks, step daughter Jean Marks (Joseph) Yon, granddaughter Elizabeth Marks, grandsons, Michael, Kyle and Sean Freeman, cousins David (Laura) and Louise Iushewitz, Sheldon (Illeane) Shwartz and Sylvia (Elliot) Goldin. Sally's stage career began at the age of 3. From there she went with her mother to Hollywood where she made several movies. Her mother died when she was ten and Sally was brought back to the Midwest to be raised by her aunt Bessie and uncle Eddie Iushewitz. After college, she worked as a Medical Technologist at Saint Michael's and finally as a Computer Systems Analyst for what is now Wheaton Franciscan. After her retirement, she thought she would try acting again and in December of 2007, Sally appeared in her first play in 35 years. In the next five years, she appeared in nine more productions. A memorial gathering is being planned for a later time. Please make any personal memorials for Sally in the form of donations to Wheaton Franciscan Hospice.

Sally I will miss you dearly. Your heart and dedication to individuals, to theatre, to UPROOTED, to life will never be forgotten. I pray you are at peace and I am happy to have been in your presence.

We'll strive to comfort the sadness we feel about the loss of Sally with the fond and loving memories we have of her work on stage and the off stage friendship of both her and Robb. She had twice the energy of people half—no—one quarter her age. It is a privilege to have come to know such a talented, vivacious and generous woman whose love of life was wonderfully infectious. As with so many others, our hearts go out to Robb and to Sally's family.

We are so sorry to hear about Sally's untimely death. As a fellow theatre performer, we would run into one another at many auditions. I never had the fortune of actually working with Sally--the one play that we would have worked in together, I had to pull out of. I loved her enthusiasm and wonderful energy. We would always think that it was so sweet to see Robb at every performance, and knew that he'd been to every single performance of every single run. Our sincere condolences to Robb and to Sally's family--she was truly loved.

I was lucky enough to work with Sally in 2009 in West Allis Players' production of "A Murder is Announced." (I was the one who murdered her at the end of Act I!) She was an amazing lady and I was honored to know her. Our thoughts and sympathies to Robb and her family.

Sally and Rob were usually the first to reserve at my Tribute to Bix fest every year. I wondered what happened this time and now I know the sad news. Sally brought expert dancing skills to our fest, along with Robb. Kind of like Ginger and Fred is the way we saw it. May she be in a better place where the music never ends.

Brenda, Danielle, and I are deeply saddened by this news. We remember her as always joyful and always smiling. We thoroughly loved watching her perform in a comedy play in Milwaukee and always hoped to be able to see her perform again. She and Robb always took kind interest in our daughter Danielle as she was growing up which always made her feel special. I will miss watching Sally and Robb cutting the rug at a West End Jazz Band performance. Our deepest heartfelt sympathy to our dear friend Robb and family. We will surely miss her.

Mike and I are devastated by this sad news. Sally was a great friend and supporter of the West End Jazz Band. She was always a friendy face of encouragement in the audience and had nothing but good and kind things to say. She would show up at even the most unlikely gigs, and it was always a pleasure to see her. We surely will miss her. Our lives, especially our lives in music, will never be the same. Our hearts and prayers go out to Sal's family, and especially to you, Robb.
