I just found out about Stephen from a former colleague that I worked with at Bay View High School and was shocked and very sad. I was extremely fortunate to work with Stephen for three years while I was the Principal of Bay View High School on a very special project. Discovery World and Bay View High School developed the Milwaukee Observatory. He was caring, understanding, and extremely patient. He believed in Bay View High School students and gave them opportunities and experiences that enriched their lives and gave it meaning in may ways. He always thought “big” so the students would become engaged and attached to their work at Discovery World. He was a very good and generous man that cared deeply about the students of Bay View High School. To this day, whenever I pass Discovery World, I think of Stephen Atwell and what he did for Bay View High School and the students, and I smile and say a quiet thank you. He really knew how to change the lives of children by providing them with rich and meaningful learning experiences. My sympathy goes to Stephen's family and friends. As a former member of Summerfield UME, I have known Phyllis and her family as long as I remember. My prayers and sympathy go out to Phyllis and her children and grandchildren. May you feel the love of God wrapping you all in his gentle care and know that Steve is living now with his heavenly father and the holy family. I have known the Atwell family for many years and will miss Steve also. Whenever I saw him, he would always give me a hug like I was his best friend.
