Theodore E. "Ted" Schmidt

Schmidt, Theodore E. "Ted" Theodore E. "Ted" Schmidt passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband for 64 years of the late Kathleen F. "Katie" (nee Dugan). Loving Dad of Sherry (Peter) Heckel, Tim (Barb) and Dan (Mark Berry). Dear Grandfather of Sarah (Alexis) Mitchell, Jeff Schmidt and Ellen Schmidt, and his two great- grandsons Henry and Stuart Mitchell. Ted was born on February 19, 1926, to Edgar and Lee Schmidt. He attended Wauwatosa High School (class of 1944) where he showed his prowess on the gridiron and on the links. Ted spent his 19th birthday landing on Iwo Jima with the 26th Marines, where he earned his Purple Heart. After the war Ted attended Marquette University until he took over his Dad's insurance agency in 1947 upon his Dad's death. Ted remained an independent insurance agent until his retirement in 1984. He was a past member of the Wauwatosa Kiwanis Club, Brookfield Rotary Club, Westmoor and Bluemound Country Clubs and the Kettle Moraine Curling Club. In addition to golf and curling, Ted thoroughly enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing and was pleased when the weather was overcast and the ducks were flying. Ted's family wishes to thank the staffs of Harwood Place and St. Camillus for their kindness and care and, in particular, want to thank Kathleen Karl for her care and compassion for both Ted and Katie over the years. Visitation Friday, February 17, from 5:00PM until time of Memorial Service at 7:00PM, at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Cross of Life Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
