3rd grade Lannon School

Mr. K was a R.S.V.P in our classroom for many years at Lannon School. He was very loved by the students and myself. He served as a special grandpa and male role model for many kids. My favorite memories of Mr. K were the days he wore his uniform to school and spoke to the kids about his service to our country. The Honor Flight was a fantastic event that we shared in. I will not forget the night we welcomed Mr. K home from Washington, D.C. He was a great friend and I will miss him forever. Thanks for allowing him to share his talents with all of us at Lannon School.

This is the Tom Kavanaugh I knew and loved

How do you say good bye to a man like Tom Kavanaugh without tears in your eyes. It just can't be done nor should it. In our hearts a memory is kept, of ones we loved and will never forget. He was an inspiration to many. I feel so blessed and honored to have known Tom. He initiated the St. Agnes TCU program many moons ago and continued to be involved until his 90's. When Tom would visit our classroom it was never just about his wise words, it was all about interaction. Tom would get on the floor with the children and tell his stories, my favorite was the "Family Zoo" story. He engaged the children with his spin art creation, assisted with name printing, a master puzzle helper, never minded helping with homework and sometimes would get a tenseness to him when I would introduce a messy art project. I laugh when when I think about it. The children absolutely loved Tom.
God has a plan for Tom as for the rest of us. After a good long life he is in peace at home. How fortunate I feel to have been able to be a part of it.

Dad and me

So many small memories that keep coming back carrying me up and down the hallway as a child when I was sick, all of us kids playing and jumping on his back, quickly setting the kitchen table before he got home from work so it looked like dinner was almost ready, yearly drives to North Dakota for family vacation in a crammed station wagon, trying to talk me out of buying that beat up Fiat when I wanted my first car. Dad was always there for us; for Mom, his children, their children, and many other children he took on along the way. He is sleeping in peace for now. I miss him dearly.

My admiration for Tom was endless. I knew him back in the mid 1970s. I was a mid 20s single woman who was the head of the finance commission on the Parish Council. He helped me navigate through things I didn't know about the finances of the parish and the school. As women are making major strides in leadership roles, Tom was ahead of his time, treating me with respect as he helped me. I truly believe it was his love for Audrey and his family that guided him. What a great man he was!

Mr. Kavanaugh was my first softball coach. I didnt go to school at St. Agnes, so I didnt know any of the other girls and was really nervous at the first practice. About 10 minutes in, I took a shot to the face. Not exactly the first impression I wanted to give and I cried all the way home refusing to ever go back. That evening Mr. Kavanaugh came to my house to make sure I was OK, and encouraged me to come back.

Because of the compassion he showed me that day, and the talent he saw in me, that I didnt see in myself, I went back.

I played throughout high school, college, and still today.

Im so appreciative for the influence he had on my life many years ago, and I regret not getting the opportunity to express that to him.

Rest in Peace.

Grandpa, you always saw the best in people and you lived to serve, encourage and support others, which is why all who knew you couldn't help but love you back. I hope to follow your example in my life as a tribute to you and all the lives you've touched.

Grandpa Tom was one of the most strong willed people I've ever met. I still remember not too long ago he was determined to make one of his ideas, spin art, catch on and become a popular activity for kids. I was happy to see him succeeding in whatever ventures he might find himself in. He was a great man, a great grandfather, and most of all a very good pure person through and through.
