Thomas Plichta Obituary

Plichta, Thomas S. Tom Plichta was born on October 31, 1942 and passed away quietly on January 31, 2008. Tom was a wonderful husband of 40 years to Christine (nee Glazewski) and father and father-in-law to Carey and Brian Wisotzke, Mark and Anne Plichta, and Annemarie and Jim Probst. He also shared special relationships with his brother and sister-in-law, John and Nancy Plichta. Tom spent his entire professional career at Ladish, Co., retiring from there as an executive officer of the company. Tom was a gifted individual who held prominent positions on various non-profit boards, but his most valued titles were husband, dad and grandpa to six grandchildren. He was passionate about the sports teams at his alma mater, Marquette University, as well as trains and railroads, particularly N-scale model trains. Tom was rarely happier than when he was golfing for "honors" at Naga-Waukee golf course, overlooking Pewaukee Lake, where he also spent many happy hours. We grieve the loss of this kind, gentle person. You have honors this week, Tom. The funeral mass for Tom will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 9, 2008 at St. Anthony on the Lake Catholic Church, W280 N2101 Prospect Ave. (Hwy SS), Pewaukee, WI 53072. The visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, February 8, 2008 at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Tom's name may be directed to the American Cancer Society, N19 W 24350 Riverwood Drive, Waukesha, WI 53188. It was an honor and a pleasure knowing Tom. When he would come into my work at the hobby shop, he always had a great smile, I suppose because he was buying more trains. It was nice to see him happy and that is how I will always remember him.

One of my earliest memories of my cousin Chris was the day of her wedding to Tom. I remember how fun that day and evening was - way into the wee hours for a young child - it was exciting! Since then Tom has been another part of the family, always smiling, always friendly, always having fun. I will miss him but I trust that he is watching over his wife, children and grandchildren - making them smile with all of their wonderful memories. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Tom was several years my senior and married when I was in elementary school and our paths did not often cross. Nevertheless, I looked up to Tom as a role model, as someone who was successful in his public and home life. I do not golf, but appreciate his passion for his avocation. Fond memories of “cousin Tommy” at our family gatherings at Babci's house in Cudahy are etched in my mind. Tom was a wonderful person and will be missed. I extend my sympathy to his wife, children, and brother.
