Thomas Tuttle Obituary

Tuttle, Thomas Nathaniel Of West Bend, formerly longtime resident of Milwaukee, joined his beloved Marnie in eternal peace September 11, 2013, at the age of 85. TNT lived a dynamite life! Born on Milwaukee's East Side, he graduated from Milwaukee Country Day and went on to spend the next 7 years at Yale University and Yale Law School. At a fateful party while home on Christmas vacation, he cut in on a dance with a darling young blonde and two years later they married. Six kids and 20 grandchildren later, their lives were nothing but love and chaos and loving the chaos. Tom was athletic, smart and had a great sense of humor. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February 1945 at age 17 and spent a year in radio and radar training in California and Chicago before the war ended. He worked at Quarles & Brady law firm in Milwaukee and was elected president of the Junior Bar at age 28. In the early 1960s, he was chosen to moderate a political talk show, "The Open Question," on Channel 4 on Sunday evenings, rubbing elbows with JFK, Nixon, Goldwater, and other national dignitaries. In 1964, he unsuccessfully ran for Congress from the 9th district. He became a real estate broker in Wisconsin's north woods so he could spend more time at the family place on Crab Lake, which was heaven on earth to him. His passion for the outdoors also led him to do volunteer fundraising for The Nature Conservancy and Riveredge Nature Center. He spent a lot of his time exploring religion, which led to his and Marnie's conversion to Catholicism 20 years ago. In addition to being the wonderful husband of Marnie Tuttle for 57 years, Tom was the revered father of Todd of West Bend, Kareth (Jeff) Servis of Fox Point, Amanda (Joe) Kemnitz of Madison, Gwyn (Peter) Goy of Cedarburg, Liza Tuttle (Kent Taylor) of Boulder, CO and Tom (Kate) Tuttle of Mequon; and also the adored grandfather of JJ, Nate, Read and Kenny Servis; Julia and Joey Kemnitz; Perry, Lydia, Robin and Elaina Goy; Hannah Tuttle and Cassandra Taylor; Redmond, Keara, Billy, Lane, Grace, Thomas, Read and Maeve Tuttle; the beloved brother of Susan Dickens of Mequon; and the special friend of sister-in-law Helen (Pepper) McCulloch. Friends may join the family on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2013, for visitation at 9:00 AM, at St. Robert Catholic Church, 2224 East Capitol Drive, in Shorewood, followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to The Nature Conservancy (www.nature.org) or Veritas Society (www.wrtl.org) would be appreciated. Special thanks to The Highlands at Newcastle Place and Seasons Hospice.

Mr. Tuttle will be greatly missed!! I'm so sorry that my family missed his memorial service. I know he is resting in peace with his wife and they are exploring heaven together, taking long walks through the beautiful gardens! Tell my grandpa that I said "Hi and I miss you all so much!" RIP, Tom!
